Rod bearing oil viscosity?

So what kind of oil are we all using after rod bearing replacement?

Well, according to my mechanic, with the increased bearing clearance of 0.003" (as he measured today), it's now got to be a thicker 10W60

When I changed my rod bearings 3 years ago to WPC treated stock ones, I switched from 10W60 to 0W40 M1. My next change will be with Castrol 0W40, not that I am convinced the new M1 is bad, but more that the Castrol may be better.

If I tracked the car, I would run 10W60. If I lived in a hot climate, I would run 10W60. If I use extra clearance bearings on my next oil change, I will probably run 10W60.

Wouldn't the 0w-40 be to thin?

There are a lot of high performance engines that run 0W40.

You can't generalize whether an oil is appropriate or not as it's entirely specific to the engine. Bmw had their reasons for 10w60 ssnd agree or not they had a reason. 0w40 may or may not be adequate

I think BMW had a contract with Castrol for 10W60 in M engines at the time.

Yea now they are with shell I believe

Amazing all those motors required 10W60. S54, S62, S65, S85, despite their varied rod bearing clearances. Tighter clearances usually spec thinner oils.
