The configuration is a variation of the Mansell config. It's not listed on the SMMR website. See http://speedventures.com/events/eventdetail.aspx?id=621

Google Maps says 55 minutes. Seems like it took me about an hour last year.

ordered a turner motorsport strut brace. i'm going to modify the oem braces to use this over-the-motor brace to make a triangular brace.

no rubbing issues at all
no issues with the following set up: 18x10.5 all around with 275/35 re71r and 275/35 NT01

Going to have 3 sets of wheels:

19" daily (lol) wheels, or backup street tires
TE37 becomes new competition wheel (R1S or similar)
EC7 becomes "fun" wheels (AD08/RE71R) tires I can drive down to the track on.

i'm finding myself to be more and more frustrated with having only one set of track wheels. when i first met dogbone, i drove out to buy a couple street tires and was delighted when i figured out he was a track guy (it was a week before my first track day ever). i picked his brain for a little while and asked about his apex wheels and was flabbergasted when he told me he had something like four sets.... now i understand.
i want spares, and i want to be able to take a set down to the cords and throw on another set without skipping a beat. its just a worry i don't want to have on a track day. i've never had to deal with the frustration of finding a tire shop on a therapy [track] day when i'm supposed to be relaxing.

hehe I only have 3 sets of track wheels. But I still have the OEM 19's laying around!

When I raced I had 10 wheels with dry race tires on them and one set w/full tread depth RA-1s for the wet. Ballers had Hoosier wets on a set too for the downpour type rains. Hoosier wets are stickier than gum erasers.

Soo this Aug 12-13 Ill be tracking at Streets of Willow and Bigwillow! I'm thinking about driving my M3 there but the drive to California from Houston and back isn't something I'm really looking forward to. Are there any track car rental companies out there? Or auto transport companies? Driving my M3 would probably be my cheapest route but I want to see my other options.

Im on the same boat hahaha. I was also thinking of getting spare brake pads just in case I run them too low at the track. I do have my OEM rims on street tires and pads but I don't it would be the same excitment at the track.

Good transport is not cheap. I've looked into having my E90 shipped to COTA.

Racewerkz Engineering houses a client-owned track prepped E92 M3 that I believe is still available for rent. It's a gutted DCT with roll cage, race seats/harness, aero, JRZ, etc. It's cool.

Gonna add my $0.02 here-----if you have two track days, maybe on the 13th you could go to Buttonwillow. Extreme Speed events can get crowded, but I would still suggest a day at Buttonwillow over staying 2 days at Willow Springs. Or if you have a bit more of a budget, you could do your 2 days at Willow Springs and then do a semi-exclusive booking at Buttonwillow ($675) and go on your own, so you're not sitting in a crowded track day. Buttonwillow really is the benchmark measuring stick around here.

who are you tracking with? it isn't extreme speed, is it? i haven't heard anything good about them.

i finished a set of pads at laguna my first time there... and i had no spares. lesson learned! always bring the spare set, at least a set of hybrids or something so you're not completely F'd. i had to drive back home on the backing plates... not ideal, but with lots of engine braking i think i managed to touch the brake pedal three times in the ~390 mile trip home.
second time at laguna, i finished another set of pads and did the swap in the pits (essex ap ftw) and didn't skip a beat.

chamba002, have you been to california before? willow springs and buttonwillow are both in sketchy areas. if you're traveling with a lady friend, she probably won't be happy. the only reason i haven't been to buttonwillow yet is because its a bit of a haul and i don't want to stay the night somewhere out near buttonwillow and bring home bugs or roaches. serious. i'll be going this weekend, but my girlfriend agreed to drive home if i'm too tired.
i know i sound like a broken record, but the area surrounding laguna seca is fantastic. great little community. the reason i'm able to go up to laguna seca a few times a year is that my girlfriend [i still haven't gotten used to saying fiance] and i love the community up there and make a four day vacation out of it.

What size/offset are the TE37's? Did you go with the 18x10.5et22's?

I won a track pass with Topak Racing I never tracked with them before, but to track for free Im going to do it even if it means spending more money to drive out there lol. One of my bucket list is to try a track in the California.

oh, i see. any free track day is a good day. and you'll feel right at home with a track day in august heat at willow.

I've been to LA and San Diego many times but never for a track event. I think it will just be me this time becuase I know my wife isn't really into cars or tracking, but she lets me enjoy my hobby. I have relatives in LA and planning to stay with them and the drive seems to be 1hr and 30mins from LA. I would love to Leguna Seca but I won a track pass with Topak Racing and they don't have any events at Leguna Seca.

If i drive there from Houston Ill take 7 days off with 4 of those days will just be driving to cali and back to Houston. I don't really want to do that but I would love to track my M3 in cali. My next choice is to fly to California (tickets are pretty cheap right now) rent a track car and still have some days to see family and friends.
