Finally! Someone who shows the appropriate level of respect!
![]() You're quite welcome. Hope it helps. Whatever you do, don't be a wimp and not run in the rain. It's the best opportunity to learn you'll get. Just dial it back and slowly (and safely) approach the limits.

Has anyone here done a chumpcar race? A group of friends and I are looking to do an enduro at COTA next year. Need advice on good, reliable car. Better to build a car or buy/rent a race prepped car?
Not requiring a comp license is good, in that I (we) don't have to go out and get licensed, but it's also bad because I'd be sharing the track with complete noobs. Make it work with a group of friends or join a team, either would be fine although racing with friends would be more fun. |

Don't know. It's a budget car series, so it's definitely the cheapest way to try out racing. We have an E21 that we can build, can buy a prepped car for $4-6k, or rent something for whatever the cost. One of the drivers has access to a SM that is used in WRL, but we don't know if we can use that car for chump (or if it's even legal). Cost will be split between 4-6 drivers. Will likely be 5-6.
Spare parts and consumables will have to be worked out as we don't know cost yet. If car + consumables + spare parts is, say, $10k, that would cost $2,000/driver with 5 drivers. $320/driver for entry, assuming entry cost next year is the same as it was this year. $50/driver for chumpcar license. Gear would cost me $700-1,000 if I buy new, those who don't have HANS and/or helmet will have to add at least $600 to that. All in, I would spend around $3,400 if we buy a prepped car. Or I can join a team and pay $1500-2000.. Or around $1,000 if I join a team and rent racing suit A Team Track Junkies could also be fun. Hmm Last edited by Kong Sheng Han; 10-14-2016 at 11:37 AM.. |

This would also divert money away from my M3, which is supposed to get the roll bar installed and sunroof deleted for ~$2500-3000 next summer.

Brembo GT-R
Upgraded my StopTech kit to Brembo GT-R all around. Will have to wait until Spring to get after it on the track, but can't wait. Anyone looking for a used StopTech Trophy kit, please PM me. They are not yet listed and will be off the car in about a week.

It's damn near 4, no rain at all.
Went for the brakes at turn 2 and nobody was home! Fortunately, I brought a spare set (a lesson from the past). Dropped a few more tenths!

What a great day. Car ran strong all day and I'm continually impressed by it. Learned a lot this time! This car really likes to be under pretty good throttle through most of the turns to share the load on the tires. In a few cases, a smoother apex meant almost 100% throttle. Lots of fun.
Not a single sprinkle until we pulled onto the street to drive back to our room. The gods of speed were certainly smiling on me today. Time to eat meat and sip whiskey.

Sounds like a very successful event! Nice.
Curious if anyone has considered switching to Shell Helix Ultra 'Racing' oil?
