S65 Engine Replacement by BMW Parts List

Curious to see if anyone has a parts list of what is actually replaced when BMW installs a brand new engine because of rod bearing failure. I'm assuming it is just a long block and all of the components are swapped over? Do they reuse the clutch and flywheel?

Thanks!

I should have an invoice of parts that I can share by end of week or next at the outside. I am completing the install of factory new motor now due to blowing up the original 08 motor last month. The total cost is approximately $30,000 - $35,000 depending on what additional parts you decide to change out due to normal wear and tear.

You could almost buy another clean 2008, have the rod bearings changed and get an aftermarket warranty for less than that.

Thanks for the reply. I just purchased an 08 that had a brand new motor installed by BMW. I was just curious if they did a clutch replacement at the same time. The invoice for the motor just has a single line item for the engine replacement basically.

Engine replacement ≠ clutch replacement, also it was most likely a rebuilt S65 vs a new one.

I have the DCT and did not need new clutches (66,000 miles). They did need to install a new flywheel because they needed the bolts and apparently you can't buy the bolts separate from the flywheel ($1500). Additionally they replaced a valve that is on top of the transmission while it was out of the car. Last year I replaced the seals/gasket on the transmission side panel and pan.

After double checking the engine part number (1002303728 at $19,500 with no core trade in) this is a factory re-manufactured engine. The total bill will still be $30,000 - $35,000 with the additional parts and labor.

I am almost done with my E46 M3 swap, found and 70K miles S65 on west coast with a 6 speed trans for $10K shipped, did the rod bearings with Calico upgraded bearing while it was out.

Glad to see the price of these motors is finally a bit more reasonable :-)
