I honestly think a lot of this stuff has to do more with the type of car than the actual driving. In Atlanta, Ive seen everything from Ferraris to Camrys driving like this and I don't remember it ever making the news and cops really don't bother unless it just gets too out of hand (like the lane splitting on this video) However, I do know that I have literally been driving the speed limit around town and had someone pull up beside me at a red light and tell me to slow down (albeit with a joking tone). Maybe it was the tone of my exhaust or the look or something... Then there was the SMART car that cut me off in traffic then got behind me and followed me for half an hour cussing at the back of my car, tailgating me, throwing everything in her car at mine, flashing her lights at me, trying to write down my tag number, called the police on me, almost wrecked herself trying to bother me...etc etc. I would be willing to bet, had I been in my daily, she would not have cared. The speed isn't what's troubling. It's the lane-splitting and cutting off of other drivers. It is possible to drive fast safely, but that certainly isn't an example. I know that this is how many New Yorkers drive. It wouldn't bother me if they would just stay in New York, but too many of them wind up in South Florida, where not only do they seem to pay no attention to either the signs or the other drivers on the road, but also haven't got a clue where they are going.

I love how everytime she said how fast they were going it was long and drawn out to emphasise the "insanity". "One..Huuuundred miiiles ayen hoouur". That's nothing in Germany. people do that on the daily here. Hell I just hit 145mph on my way home just because I could
Not looking forward to moving back. not one bit |

I'm sure that those will never be abused, such as when a DA is going to run for governor and wants a few more felony convictions on the record, so the PD is pushed to write more of those charges for 68 in a 65 zone. It sounds like a great idea in a "knee jerk" fashion, but the potential for abuse when used in a widespread fashion in a system primarily centered upon raising money for local governments is just not worth it. Keep this kind of stuff on the track and off the roads. You're risking lives and risking everyone's freedoms. |

There are distinct norms of 60 cruising with three lorries, 70 and 80. You'd definitely stand out above that unless you find company to cruise with |

100 MPH in a straight line is slow. 100 MPH in/coming out of a corner at a track is fast. Former is boring; latter is fun.
I will say though, going from 130-140 to 40 MPH on the back straight of COTA is thrilling..really the only time I've enjoyed driving in a straight line. Also the front straight because of the hill at the end. |

I've only been to NYC once. My first cab ride to Wall Street/Bowling Green from the airport was more horrifying than this. The cab driving was going balls out on the shoulder and only slowing down for onramps/offramps while going on an anti-Obama tirade in what I think were three different languages.
I would have rather been in one of those M3's.. |
