Premium vs Hifi Sound

Sup fellas. I have a 2011.5 e92 and I can't tell if I have the premium sound or not.

I see 1 speaker on the center dash, 4 speakers in the front and 4 speakers in the back.

Anyone can chime in the difference in both?

If your speaker screens are semi transparent and you can see orange/yellow and the trim around them is brushed aluminum, you have Enhanced Premium Sound. If all you can see is mesh, you have HiFi.

Bass is only going to sound decent inside the car. It's the design of the system.

This is a major gripe of mine. On more than one occasion, a passing hunny has refused to hop in due to my distorted audio.

Yep, if you could completely cork up that damned exhaust on the F80, the piped in engine music via hi-fi would sound just like an S65!

I have premium also. Get some Bavsound Ghost sub replacements. Less than an hour install and sound much better than the OEMs. The tweeters and mid-range will sound good if you can fill in the low end.

Bro, if your other tools are working well, the bass isn't that important...Just saying

It's kinda disappointing that they didn't offer the Harman Kardon sound on the premier 3 series. I believe the option for "premium" is called "individual sound" that I have and I'm far from from disappointed but I had a 06 330 with the Harman Kardon option and it sounded a bit better. Not much, but to me it was noticeable.

+1. The BavSound Ghost subwoofers are awesome. Noticeably improved bass as well as a more full sounding midrange. Still, nothing sounds as good as the engine note.

Quoted below is what you need. Difference is night and day after the equalizer settings changes.

200 Hz: +1
500 Hz: +4
1000 Hz: +5
2000 Hz: +8
5000 Hz: +5
10000 Hz: +5

Treble: 0
Bass: +3

Front/Rear: R-2 or 3

This was meant as a starting point from which folks could then tweak to taste. He used some pretty high-end audio analysis equipment when coming up with these numbers.

Personally, I like a little more low end thump (and the PS falls a bit short in that area, IMO). I've bumped the 100 Hz to +4 and the 200 Hz to +2. My bass setting is usually is at +4 to +5 and Treble is +1. Fader is neutral or R-1.

I also find myself liking the "fullness" of the audio without the "surround" function active in many instances... Play around a bit and you can get the system up to its potential

I have Individual Sound and no complaints. But if bass is what you're after, then you want the Logic 7 Sound package.

Use any BMW VIN decoder, such as this one...
https://www.bmwvin.com

...then look for this code.
S752 Individual audio

I'm pretty happy with the Dirac system on my car.

This is from the original press release:

Finally, music aficionados can now specify the BMW Individual High End Audio system that uses 16 loud speakers to generate an ear-ringing 825 watts."

”Exceptional sound quality is guaranteed above all by the newly developed BMW Individual High End Audio System based on trendsetting Dirac signal processing.”

“The heart of the system is BMW’s trendsetting Dirac Live signal processing technology. The digital nine-channel amplifier with Digital Signal Processing (DSP) used in this case develops maximum output of 825 watts. Supplemented by speed-related volume control and speed-related equalising, as well as a total of 16 loudspeakers, the system sets the standard in sound reproduction, brilliant sound quality guaranteeing supreme music pleasure on all seats in the new BMW 5 Series.”

"As in music, true mastery is also required to acheive first-class listening experience for the itneriour of a vehicle. The BMW Indiivdual High End Audio System is able to fulfill this exacting demand perfectly. Signal processing is precisely tuned to the three dimentional space, and the DIRAC technology together with speed dependent equilizing reduced unwabted ambient noise to a minimum. In addition, 16 high-performance speakers generate an impressive sound stage for the occupants. The result is sheer listening pleasure.

"Lack of sound clarity is eliminated by time delays and any acoustic reflection is severly reduced. To do this, the digital amplifier makes use of the unique DIRAC Live technology, which modifies both time and frequency ranges of the signal."

Harmon-Kardon system is half the cost of the Individual Audio system (Dirac) don't see how H-K can be better!
