thedge9 , If surlynkid and dogbone can do 100 track sessions on original rod bearings, so can I. It's actually not even something I worry about anymore - if it happens it happens and I'll see about replacing the engine when it does. Just replacing the oil for now. I think once I get to 150k miles I will consider it.

con rod bearing anxiety
whew!!!!
I though I might need medication or counseling after reading the posts and pics of all the teardowns that show impending disaster. Made me wonder about if racers or track rats had issues. Had you ever tested your oil?

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1201006 I have 3 oil samples I'm sitting on that I have yet to send in, because I've been so busy. I'll have to do that. I'm not too concerned atm about the engine blowing. Before I started tracking the car, I would change every 2-3 months, now it's more like every month, or 4 track days, whichever comes first.

Spring Mountain was fun - but confusing. A lot of new turns to learn over the course of a 3.4 mile track. I had a lot of fun all day - when I screwed up, I would drift, and drift confidently; I'm trying to get all portions down smoothly, so there are less jerky movements. Not always successful.
Best lap (even after slowing to let someone by) was 2:44.534, and this was at the last session of the day. Lots of room left on the table. I did learn that the Spring Mountain staff does not appreciate drifting at all - any intentional drift will get you a black flag. I didn't realize this, so when I got black flagged towards the end of this session here: I figured they were referring to someone else. I don't think I saw the second black flag on the main straight, which from watching the video DEFINITELY was referring to me - as it happened, I was concentrating on letting the guy coming up my rear pass me, and directly in front of me. It turns out that later in that lap I went 4 wheels off because I didn't correct a drift properly; which I definitely knew was black flagging me because it popped up on their really cool lighting system - white box around a 94, which was my car. So I go to come in, and I got a royal ass chewing for ignoring black flags and disrespecting it - (for drifting after receiving the black flag). In my defense, I had no idea that I was the one that triggered it, and I had no idea that they don't want drifting at the track. If I had known that last bit, I wouldn't have done it for sure. What would a track weekend be without some gremlin to throw some shade over it? Right before the scheduled 2nd session is about to start, I get in the car, and try to fire it up. Nothing. No electronics. No power at all, anywhere. I've seen this before back in December. No problem, I'll try to reseat some fuses and wiggle some cables, and maybe it'll be fine? I crawl into the trunk to try to reseat the battery (I can't pop the trunk because my anti-kidnapping system cable seems to have snapped, LOL), nothing happens. I mess around for about 15 minutes, completely angry about this turn of events, then I go to walk away to the bathroom, and come back. The car's electronics all wake up. Additionally, I had a CSF radiator installed as a test to see if it would stop the overheating I ran into at Buttonwillow. Things seemed fine in the morning where it was ~60 deg F. In the afternoon, I ran into some overheating after pushing hard in high 7k RPM+ range for extended periods in some of these turns. Maybe the oil cooler is needed after all, or it's like okusa said - it's junk :/ We'll see in next iteration. Sunday rolls around, and the valet drops off my car. I hop in, and see this "Lighting malfunction! Stop carefully!" warning in the iDrive. No turn signal, no angel lights, no brake lights, no power windows, no door locks, no mirrors. Wow! I figure I'll drive to the track and see if I can't find someone more knowledgable, or try to fix this myself. After arrival and sitting down to do some research, I quickly realize I can't fix it, especially after pulling all the footwell fuses to see that they're all fine, so I scratch the track day and drive home. Oh, on that second day, they were still quite angry with me, so I went to talk to the track manager to clear the air with him. Rumors circulated that I almost hit someone, flipped off track workers, went off multiple times (only went off once all day, and it was really mild). As you can see from the second video, they didn't use their lighting system to black flag me until after I went off.

Quite the rebel you are. haha. jk. Nice driving. the M3#86 drift academy is working. Are you going to go with the whole setup and get the oil cooler as well? Is there any air trapped in the lines/radiator? Are you using OEM fluid or distilled water mix?

New PB for me today at ACS was at the end of the day, 1:54.477 - was not able to set this time for the Bimmer Challenge, my Bimmer Challenge time was 1:54.779, good for 5th place. Ivan beat me by a tenth of a second - 1:54.679 for 3rd place, and Ali beat me by a hundredth of a second - 1:54.770! Crazy close times. At the time though, I was happy because it was a PB. I managed to shatter that the same day.
What a fantastic and happy day! I had a great time. No engine cooling issues, car ran great on fresh NT01 tires, 39 hot on the passenger side (Right) and 37 hot on the left. Going to try 35 hot tomorrow.

Sunday was magnificent - beat Saturday's time by well over a second:
Funny thing I was pretty sloppy in some spots so definitely could drop time, haha.

I had so much confidence going fast into scary turns like 7 and 8 carrying a lot more speed, I could feel the tires pushing back against the weight of the car and keeping me planted on the track.

Looking at my sector times in my AIM Solo DL, it tells me I can accomplish a 1:50.963. I had to consult this guy's website: http://www.jamescolborn.com/ to show me how to use this tool, but now that I know how to make my own sectors in the tool, it's very useful. It can auto-generate sectors, but I think I prefer to make my own: ![]() Here are all of Sunday's laps. It's interesting that even though I was oversteering through turns 5 and 6 (represented by the green bar after the blue numbered 3 sector), it was still my fastest time of the day. Same with red sector 5, which is the slow 40 mph turn onto the long back straight. I gotta take a look at what I'm doing in some of the later laps, especially the one marked 8/2 to see what I was doing for the back half coming onto the oval. You can see it would have made a massive difference in my lap time coming into the bank, as the 8/2 -> 8/3 lap transition takes 35.596 seconds - a great deal faster than 36.239 second time from the 4/3 -> 4/4 lap transition (4/4 being my fastest lap).

very consistent, but it seems kinda low... elim11 did 390 on eas' dyno and he just has has a catless xpipe and a gintiani tune.
you're bpm tune, full akra, pulley, and intake, right?

Yeah. I'm not reading too much into it though, since I've read it's dependent on the dyno and conditions. I've seen stock cars as low as 330hp.

I had passed him on the banked oval, but he eventually caught up to me and passed me on the straight (these cars have unreal amounts of power) - here's another one that passed me like I was standing still on the main straight, then proceeded to go sideways on the bank :O
