Alignment question. Do I need to install my track wheels/tires before having my alignment done? The alignment shop said no but my street tires are quite different than my track set 245/265 19's vs 275/295 18's.

Generally I think alignments are done from the wheel hub but will the car suspension geometry change with the track tires on? Not worried about minor/imperceptible differences (easier to drop car off with street tires).

The alignment shop I go to (one of the most respected in socal) told me the same thing so I dont have any reason to doubt. I believe he said they align using suspension geometry, not via the tires. In addition, they don't use the laser alignment things that attach to the wheels. They do old school method.

I'm actually going to MRF today to get a track alignment for ACS this Sunday so I can ask. I did install my track wheels/tires before the alignment because they are a different offset even though tire diameter/size are the same as my daily setup. Not sure if it was needed but I will find out in a few hours.

Much appreciated! My track tires are also wider than street with different offsets as well.

I go to West End and they told me the same thing. I brought mine with me and was told not to bother putting them on.

Glad both my wheels and tires are all same size granted that tires can run wider in same sizes.

Yeah no need to install the track wheels. In my case I didn't need a full alignment. MRF did one recently so they just changed the camber plate settings to dial more neg front camber for ACS. Went from -1.7 to now -2.9. The difference is incredible. Car wants to turn!

Camber plates were the cheapest functional mod (around $450) that made the biggest difference for me. The change is incredible.

I think I'm going with the following for a track and DD friendly setup, thoughts appreciated:
-2.5 F
-1.8 R
1/16" toe F+R (total on axle)

Mine at 2.8 still corded nt01 so I went back to 3.5

0 toe front 1/16th rear

Don't notice anything bad as dd.

Thanks for the alignment comments. Interestingly, my rears at -1.8 have induced enough inner wear on my rear street tires that I'm going to need to replace them soon. I have no idea how much longer they would have gone w/o the negative camber though so YMMV. Regardless, I want my car set up to perform at the track so not looking to be conservative on my settings.
