Thing is, I change my fluid so often it makes way more sense to go with the cheaper stuff. I think SRF is for rich people that don't track their cars. They pay more money to have to worry about changing it less frequently. That's my take on it anyway.

have you ever talked to anyone about those shims? i ask because i haven't heard anything solid on them. i'm a bit skeptical about them... like if those are going to solve a brake issue, its like putting a bandaid on a gaping wound.

Converted from Motul 600 to SRF (all on stock brakes, race pads). I never boiled my motul fluid, but I did flush the brakes more often (2x a year or so). with the SRF, I have not boiled the fluid and BUT, i dont have to flush as often (1x a year) and ability to recover if fluid boils over. Which makes it worth it for me.

May grab some shims also, anyone have a link?

Ya your paying more money to change it less often. In that way its like a BBK. Higher initial cost but it pays for itself with less replacement needed. I've tried a bunch of fluids and always end up back at SRF, will be sticking with that from now on.

I run these on my Brembo BBK, looks like they also have them for StopTech ST-40:

Thanks for the links all, just found these as well:
Girodisc ST-40 Ti Shims

I was also reading a few reviews on Rennlist and one guy said his Ti shields jammed a caliper on him on track once, scary. Lots of folks have successfully run them though. Perhaps a good option when you know you are just barely boiling the fluid at the end of a session (as I am). Running COTA later this year though (which I've been told is much more demanding on the car), so like roastbeef said, perhaps more than a band-aid is needed.

I just realized Castrol SRF is $60 for 1L, not 0.5L. I may have to give it a try after I deplete my RBF600 supply.

But if I'm paying $13/bottle of RBF600, and assuming I flush 2x/year, it's still cheaper than 1 flush/year with SRF. Labor once vs twice doe, hmm.

my philosophy- brakes are a safety item. its a one time initial hit to the wallet, but the best peace of mind and confidence booster all at the same time. brakes that are consistent help you grow as a driver because they eliminate a variable (brake fade) that you have to work around.
once i experienced significant fade, it scared me, and i hated it. i would much rather pay $3,400 for something that is going to help me be improve and be more safe, rather than spend more than that for going off and breaking shit or running into someone or a wall because i can't stop.
i can understand that people have financial constrictions, but this is one of those things where a person can spend a little more and get a kit that is tremendously better. and no, one doesn't have to go crazy with piggy-backed vented calipers/rotors/lips to achieve this.

I just went with a used 380mm Brembo BBK for F/R. $3900. The killer is the cost of the rings, but Coleman Racing quoted me $300 per ring for the fronts.

He already has a gaping wound though - I think the ST40 pistons are made from aluminum by default (You can get titanium pistons from stop tech but I don't think they are on there on the default kit). The shims will help combat that for him. They're inexpensive compared to dumping the kit entirely for a new one.

Maybe I shouldn't admit this, but I have the same SRF fluid in the car that I had when I installed the BBK - 22 track days ago.

I haven't bled them once, and I've never experienced brake fade.

That's great. Maybe it's worth the extra money.

AP Racing J-hooks are $399, at least for my 372 mm kit:

12-Bolt, Floating Hat, Disc Attachment Hardware Kit 13.04.40003 2 $60.00
AP Racing J Hook Competition Disc Replacment Ring (372x34mm)- Left Hand 13.05.10027 1 $399.00
AP Racing J Hook Competition Disc Replacment Ring (372x34mm)- Right Hand 13.05.10026 1 $399.00

They're not that much more expensive, and probably last longer and brake better than blanks.

I could also be a total noob and not be hitting them hard enough, or not realizing when they're fading, lol. It's not been noticeable enough to me though.

I always feel like I brake too early.

That's a great kit and it's probably not getting too hot yet. I'm sure as you get faster and your skill catches up to the kit, you might have to bleed it more often than never.

I have the kit all the way around, so that's two rings up front and two in the rear.

380x34mm x 2
380x28mm x 2

$540 x 2 (fronts via AutoTalent.com)+shipping
$500 x 2 (rears via AutoTalent.com)+shipping

Wow. After about 4 or 5 days on my SRF I had to flush again with SRF just because my pedal feel was not as firm. Do you think the BBK is reducing the overall heat thats introduced to the braking system in your case and that's why? Or maybe I'm just braking too much lol

I think it's the BBK, rings, and my noobliness. Brake feel has always been firm when I go to them, I don't even think about fade. It's always there when I need them.
