Supercharged M3 as a daily driver
Hi,
I have an E92 M3 as my daily driver. I use it for commuting through heavy traffic, shopping trips and longer highway trips as well as spirited drives for fun and a few track days. I'm thinking of going for the ESS VT2-625 supercharger and just wondered if a supercharged car becomes more 'difficult' in commuting and shopping mode or would it be fine for this type of use....? Also what extra maintenance is required with a supercharger fitted? I will be doing the rod bearings and I am expecting more frequent oil changes and spark plugs but does the charger itself require regular work...? Thanks Jack |

It acts the exact same as stock just with a lot more power throughout the RPM range. There are plenty of people that daily supercharged M3's, myself included and wouldn't have it any other way.
Maintenance is as you mentioned already: supercharger oil - 7500 miles Spark Plugs - 7500-10000 miles If you're DCT, I'd get a DCT tune as well.

I've had mine since January and used it as my daily driver from January - June. not a single problem except for speeding tickets.

I go through consumables quickly like tires and rotors and have to do more frequent oil and other fluid changes and spark plugs. Also did rod bearings at 32,000 miles but otherwise it has been bullet proof from a reliability perspective. I tracked and airstrip'd the car heavily so that's the reason for needing to change everything out all the time. If it was just a daily driver it probably wouldn't have needed much more than just more frequent oil changes. But when you have a blower your perspective changes and you wanna drive the snot out of it all the time

I have been supercharged since 2010, 08 m3, 6sp. I have the aa setup. Perfectly reliable, consumables go quicker when you beat on the car. I have 30k supercharged miles and can't complain. If I keep rpms low it's had to even tell it's modified other than the exhaust... but that's no fun.

I did daily drive my car before I supercharged it. I have a ESS 625kit. I've had 2 months with it and love it.
drive it maybe 3 or 4 times a week for long periods. No problems

I think the car behaves almost like stock under normal driving conditions. Technically more power through the range but not terribly noticeable. It's when you get on it.
Also with DCT, if you are driving in 5th gear and floor it, downshifts to 2nd and the transmission slips... So if you want to get on it you have to manually shift down and wait a couple seconds. Things like that may bother you if you have DCT.

nope, supercharged car will actually have more torque and you could always drive it one gear higher with less throttle
in reality it's a little bit lower with normal driving and of course higher when you floor it |

I daily my Harrop SC car. Having more low end torque means that you don't need to rev it out to do passing. Being stuck in traffic will actually cool the oil temp due to the efficiency of the air to water system.

The computer may be telling you that but there is no way you are actually seeing those numbers.

the computer is telling him that because aftermarket injectors (Bosch I think) are bigger so it thinks there is less fuel flow than it really is
it could be recalibrated to show real consumption, which is maybe few percent lower than on a stock car with normal driving and significantly higher when you floor it (of course with much more fuel flow) |

Not sure about V3 self contained oil blowers but V2 with engine optimization feed not supposed to bE run in freezing weather. I put an oiL pan heater on mine.
