supercharger or turbo?

Hey guys...I have a 2011 e93 m3 dct ....just wanted to pick your brains a bit and see which one would be better fit and maintained easier.... a supercharger or turbo kit?

There are several centrifugal supercharger kits, one positive displacement supercharger kits, and no turbo kits in production. So a supercharger kit is what you will get.

Well that answered my question quick...now how much horsepower does that approximately add...and I haven't started looking at kits...but which one comes highly recommended?

They all come highly recommended by the people recommending them. AA, Evolve, VFE, and ESS sell centrifugal kits. Harrop sells a positive displacement kit. The Harrop would suit a heavy convertible since it helps low end power the most.

I've always been curious as to why nobody has offered a turbo kit for the S65 since BMW does have turbo V8 setups?

I would love a turbo high revving V8

Gintani makes/made an S65 turbo kit but from what I can imagine only a saudi prince can afford a kit like that especially @ $15-18k

Trade for a E90 or E92? Shave some weight and go faster

Well from experience they are both about the same. The Super charger kits work off a belt so its much easier to install and maintain where as a turbo is mounted right after the exhaust header/manifold and they also require both oil and water cooling so that means you'll need an coolant and oil feed locations and a coolant return and oil return location which is typically the oil pan (assuming its a ball bearing turbo) so they are more complicated to install..

One thing to keep in mind is that turbo's generate more heat than superchargers. But to answer your question Turbo kits don't use a belt so they are practically maintenance free where with a supercharger you have to keep changing belts every x amount of miles.

I believe the reason nobody offers a turbo kit is because you can't fit turbos in the engine bay.

620+ HP in this car is already damn near overkill. Very, very few vehicles on the road will outrun it. Go with a supercharger kit and enjoy it. +1 for the Active Autowerke kit, but I'm entirely biased.

Honestly, im content with the power my car puts out, im not looking to do any drag racing so its fine the way it is. I got that all out of my system when i had a 580hp AWD car that only weighed 2700lb.

And yes it is expensive to buy plus install

Gintani's setup does not use any cooling system as you discribe.

Check their Instagram updates. Also AMC west's, which states that their lining up some cars after they Gintani clears up some backlog. As far as I know if you contact either of them they will schedule accordinglly.

Woa id given up on Gintani actually producing the turbo kit, went with ESS 16,000 miles ago.
Is it in the 16-20k range as people expected??

Lol true.... I wonder how many miles before I have to change the belt on the supercharger?
