After reviewing many posts I have come up with a shortlist of potential axle back exhausts for my e92 M3 considering the following:

1. I have just installed evolve test pipes and tune with cold start delete
2. I'm not looking for additional performance, just high quality sound and look
3. Not a fan of raspy exhausts. Just a little bit is fine
4. Don't want drone or something that is too loud
5. Price is important. I still want to buy more stuff for the car

This is the shortlist:

- Megan Racing
- Billy Boat
- Remus Sport (although I'm not sure is this is still being sold)
- Remus Race

I would appreciate your feedback. Unfortunately I live in Peru and haven't been able to hear a lot of setups. Only Akra Evo (sounds great but is way too expensive) and Active Autowerke (found it unbearably loud). Looking to keep it below $1,500 since I need to import it to Peru and pay import duties.

Thanks

I have always heard good things about the Billy boat exhausts although I haven't heard them personally.

I had a Megan racing exhaust on my e46 m3 and not only did it sound horrible but the fitment was crappy too. Not sure about the e9x

I did but the one that I heard is too loud. Looking for something more civilized.

No axle back provides performance gain. I like my eisenmann race but since you've got test pipes and want it civil maybe look into the eisenmann sport

Can you find a used Dinan? Almost no drone at all.

See if you can pick up a used eissenman exhaust, either that or borla.

eisenmann race will drone and be pricey compared to the other mufflers that are used. the suggestion of dinan would be the best for what op is looking for.

Have you considered our cat-back for the E90/E92 M3 (part #15545)? It should typically meet your price point (depending on your dealer of choice) and we think it looks pretty good. The sound will be a smooth, deep tone that is not much louder than stock at idle and cruise but comes alive when you put your foot into it.

I can't see how any exhaust would drone since OP is keeping the stock secondary cats, and resonators. Secondary cats are listed as cats/silencers by BMW. In other words his mid pipe is intact. Re-read the original post.

Also there are two types of eissenman exhausts. I was referring to the non-race eissenman, thus the exclusion of the word race from my post.

he has test pipes you must have missed that part. get a general consensus of what people think about certain mufflers and test pipes. also when a muffler comes in two variations and you don't mention which one you are talking about i will automatically assume you mean race as it is the more popular version on this forum.

Thanks for everyone's input. I'll look into a used Eisenmann Sport or Remus Sport but I think so far the Megan Racing is the winner. Can't beat the price! I'm concern though about the drone with the Test Pipes but given the price I'll probably take my chances. There are a lot of happy Megan Racing users out there.

Most aftermarket exhaust drone, unless they have a Helmholtz chamber built in. Resonators are for rasp and volume and do little to reduce drone.

Take the ACM mod vs OEM Mod for example. You are starting with the same exhaust base, but eliminating/modding different sections. With the OEM Mod, you wrap the perforated pipes in the "resonator chamber", but leave the Helmholtz chamber alone. As a result, you get a louder exhaust and little to no drone. The ACM mod bypasses the Helmholtz chamber and the "resonator chamber" and you get a loud exhaust and introduce drone.

From my observation, our S65 engines drone at 1800 - 2100 RPM and again at 2900 - 3100 RPM.

www.howstuffworks.com--> "resonators" Technically, every exhaust system oem or not will drone period. Resonators in the mid pipe are strategically placed to move the drone entirely out of the lower rpm range, and further up, so that you don't hear it. Take any oem exhaust, and remove only the resonators, and nothing else. Result? Drone at ~2,000rpm.

So as long as the OP still has his oem mid pipe, his car "won't drone". Or at least he won't ever hear it.
