Not true. You can replace just one. People sometimes do both just because they're in there. However, the two actuators work or fail independently.

the second actuator will have close to the same amount of wear as the bank that went first. I replaced bank one my self and bank two went a month later. Doesnt make sense to pay for labour twice, unless you do everything your self really

As A M Tech At Bmw, I Would Recommend Both, When One Failed On My Car I Replaced Both
Ive Seen Them Fail Very Very Often And As M3don Said, Your Other One Will Be Not Too Far Behind, By All Means You Can Replace The One, But Prepare For Failure Of Bank 2, Matt, |

Anyone attempt to rebuild them I just seen some stuff on another forum and spoke to the guy that sells the gears and all wondering if anyone could rebuild them if I get the parts

By set do you mean both? or for 1 actuator? Shipping included?
400 GBP is about the cost of 1 actuator brand new. |

i have a set that i replaced so if you guys are interested I could sell you them. that way you can a least drive your car while you wait for the rebuilt
