There are probably 13 335s sold for every 1 M3.

I would also guess that it's more likely for someone to treat an M3 as a weekend car/garage queen than a 335, therefore keeping the average mileage lower.

its really shocking how much people really dont use common sense. Of course a higher volume car is going to show more failures. techs probably see 328i and 335i in the shop at all times. really doubt a M3 comes in everyday. (well maybe in cally haha)

agreeing with you.

That's fine and all, but these techs haven't seen any m3s come in with any serious issues..except for people who don't know how to use the cars and think it's broken.

I'm making a case that the m3 is a solid car, and that the bearing issue isn't as big as people think. No need to throw around insults.

We need to collectively try to hire the attorneys that have handled the Takata lawsuits. the deaths of passengers is what i'm sure helped the case but this issue is just as dangerous.

People forget that majority of issues seen on forums like this are only a small percentage of the overall group. It's like yelp, 90% of people go on their to complain. No one has as much of a motivation to post when they're satisfied.

Nonetheless, I'd like to see this issue addressed by BMWNA, along with the vanos issues on the E46 M3.

Any updates? Did the attorney that handled the N54 respond to you yet?

The total S65's BF till today , I have not .
But I have some "Worlwide" BF numbers of time/period of 3 months .
Think you know too that the "World" is a lot bigger than this small forum...That's why I'm always talking Worldwide
On this forum some are"thinking" that they have some % numbers (forum numbers) but actually sorry it's only BS .
Only BMW knows the "actual total" of Worlwide BF .
And I know , you know me too from on this forum , and what I'm doing .
And open and in public , so on this forum I'm estimate nothing .

world wide data would help a BMW NA lawsuit, but the statistics could also hurt if it's a small percentage. i think a 5% failure rate will not be enough. I don't know production numbers in the US or global production.

edited: i'm going of internet numbers but it looks like a rough estimate of less than 66,000 total for all models (90,92,93 and ctr/gts). Unless 3-4,000 cases can be proved i don't see anything happening but i hope for the opposite.

Thought the total Global production numbers were about 57,559 .
About the Worldwide BF numbers we need only stock cars to see something happen, so only not tuned cars , and cars without SC .
And than the % of BF drops .
If something happens, and I really hope...Think BMW would seriously sweat , because BMW never had or has a fix for the BF in the last 12 years.
The only thing they did , was replacing rebuilt S65's under warranty .
So the only option would be a kind of prolonged warranty in case of BF.

You are straight up ridiculous. How can you validate this statement? You presume that yes, an engine failure, while driving, may be detrimental to the safety of the occupants, but how is that in any realm similar to the Takata incident that has been ongoing for well over 10 years and has actually resulted in proven deaths.

Global production numbers were a touch under 66,000 units.
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=861141
CAN/USA production numbers are 30,256
A CAN/USA fail rate of 2% (of 30,256 cars) would give 605 failures.
Number of (non- supercharged) engine fails reported on M3post is under 60.
Number of E9x M3 owners on M3post estimated by Swamp using data from admin is ~4500.
Given these numbers...at a 2% fail rate you would expect to have seen 90 failures reported on M3post. At 5% you would expect to have seen 225 failures of M3post E9x M3 owners.

Because most of the time we are not alone on the roads ..
So for me personal I think he was very....very lucky that day ,and probably other drivers too on the place of the accident .
And caused by what ....Broken Airco ?

Bearing failure can be potentially dangerous depending when and how it happens. A car's bearings that seize while idling in a parking lot is not bad but having one's bearings go while driving on a highway might be very dangerous to the driver and other people on the road.

I certainly hope no one has to die because of this issue before we can prove to BMW to help us.

While it could be dangerous, it's foreshadowing and no one pays for what "potentially could happen" I'm amazed at some of the replies here.
