Stopped by the plater early this am to drop off a bag of suspension bolts. Here's a sneak peak of some polished aluminum. Pretty stoked with how the garage made pieces are came out:

Plater had most of the polished aluminum ready for pick-up this morning (Sunday). Still has some aluminum odds and ends and to finish the chroming process on the steel. Will have most of the aluminum clear powder coated this week.

Pretty psyched (blown away) with how some of the pieces I made turned out when they were done polishing them! In addition to what I posted on Friday,

Raw extrusions to fuel rails:



Solid 2.5" block (you can't imagine the pile of chips!!!) to Mounting bracket for the SQ6M ecu, pinched in rubber!

Well after a 950 mile roundtrip drive to get my youngest from school this weekend he wanted nothing more than to lay on the couch and watch sports inside all day yesterday. I was happy to oblige and join him, but I guess the gearhead equivalent to knitting is 13 hours in the living room deciphering the rear parking, tail, fog, reverse, brake/signal, side-markers and central brake and building the tail harness to go with it and testing it as I went. All that’s left now is to French them in when doing the bodywork. All four main lights are positional. Took a year on EBAY to assemble a full set. Running a ProWire module for the shared brake/signal lights and the Porsche multi-position switch for the lights I deciphered back in December. Extra points for identifying the OEM application for the lights:

Yup-F430! Thanks!!! I'm still really amazed at how well the OEM stuff polished up!!! And I think it would look off the charts on an M3! Now, "just because" it's a hot rod, having the crown and axles painted to match the frame and the knuckles chromed--and just tonight came home to a box from Proflex filled with Black Series bushings to put it back together again.

So Mike (the accountant) came back yesterday to lend a hand with his new portable TIG welder and took two of us 12 hours, and several more for me today to get a pair of raw 356 alloy extrusions from Rotten Leonard's Hot Rods designed for a '30-31 Hallock style frame to fit the FFR '33. The 30-31 cowl is much rounder and much narrower. So had to spread, fill and reshape a great deal. Pretty stoked with how it came out and will have at the polisher first thing. (side benefit, with a glass order this week will have all I need to start the NY paperwork process.) Had really set a goal of having this finished while parts are out and about.

After two weeks of staring and thinking, first task was to jerryrig it in the bridgeport so could mill the ends straight and cutoff the ears. Also then ground off the front of the ears and dug out the back outward flanks with the grinder.





We then joined the halves and Mike TIG'd 1/4" aluminum straps we wrestled with clamps and aluminum vice blocks to conform to the curve (don't forget to drill holes to match the helix coils in the casting!). At this point really begin thinking boy did I screw this up and never gonna work!





Then we filled the gap in the back produced by spreading the halves and the top and the bottom.

Next cut the straps to rough shape with a cutoff wheel, and then begins the real fun, grind, grind and grind some more. Stones weren't working, went through a dozen flap disks, 40 then 60 grit, occasional belt sander on the bottom. But because of the compound shapes, mostly freehand with the grinder. Had the vice facing the corner of the bench so each of us can work a side at the same time (one front, one back, then flip!). Unusually high quota of blood drops on the floor with so much grinding this weekend.



Today did some final cleanup grinding and then spent hours shaping the edges filing by hand. Decided to let the polisher finish the point down the nose! Anyway, sans glass and polish, here's the finished product!

After several hours of rubbing and buffing where I could, got the motor and trans to a place where I felt was ready to go back in this weekend. Lot's of protection and they're back in. Also got in the headers and finished remounting the exhaust. Then got on the engine harness bulkhead connectors and mounting the SQ6M ECU in the bracket I milled for it. OEM crank pulley came back from black anodizing this week to match the black Active SC pulley it's mated to and that went back too. Wish the weekends were longer!
