Man Down! 2008 M3 Rod Bearing Failed

Sub-frame and oil pan dropped... Sandy Sansing BMW is waiting for my warranty company Premier Dealer Service's inspector, whoever that is, to come and visibly look at the failed bearing...

I was hoping the inspector would look at it today... Hopefully tomorrow... The suspense is killing me!

And now that my car is gutted on their rack, it is taking up their lead tech's work area and lift... Hope the inspector shows soon... I don't want to piss off the dealership, as they have been very communicative with me through this whole process...

I wouldn't worry about using the lift and space. They know the process so it's all good. Now fingers crossed everything will come out as you hope! We're all rooting for you.

This really interests me. My load dealer sells this warranty and it isn't badly priced ($2700 for 5 years 100k total $200 ded). If I pickup a M3, which I plan to, they will be providing the warranty.

They are adjusters. Doesn't matter how knowledgable they are. They are there to document the damage and write an estimate. It's up to the company to determine coverage.

The 36 complaints to the BBB this company has would not inspire confidence they will do the right thing.

I read those complaints as well, but not all of them were mechanical warranty complaints... In fact, only 1/2 of them were mechanical... the other 1/2 of them were collision paint/body related...

Apparently, Premier Dealer Services also offers collision warranties as well...

Their BBB rating is an "A," so I am confident they will do the right thing...

Additionally, if you read the complaints- most of them are people complaining about wear/tear items that are miniscule... Items that I would never use a warranty to repair... Wheel bearings, brake calipers, struts, etc.. Not to mention that a lot of the Premier Dealer Services responses to the complaints found that the owners of the vehicles had not taken care of their vehicles and performed preventative maintenance and then expected the warranty company to cover their repairs due to their own negligence...

My car, on the other hand, has an impeccable service history that is above even the required BMW standard- all recorded by BMW Dealer Service Centers and provided to them already... Car has never been raced or abused...

I can't imagine they will deny coverage...

If they do deny coverage, then Premier Dealer Services is truly a scam...

There was another member here that had a 3rd party warranty deny paying for his motor. Supposedly they gave him the run around for months claiming odd things such as oil starvation, abuse, etc.... even though the warranty company had zero grounds for their argument. He ended up paying for it out of pocket.

3rd party warranty companies are notorious for getting out of high dollar claims. They seem to be able to blame a fault on literally anything they want.

I'm really pulling for you though. I hate to see anyone in a situation like this get screwed.

I've gotten screwed before in the past by these warranties, so I don't touch them. I just do very intensive preventative maintenance. So my advice, do what I did: cancel the warranty, and have them pay you the $ value on the remainder, if they don't cover it.

I can see your point, but keep in mind that this warranty was offered as an extended warranty by Dreyer and Reinbold BMW in Indianapolis... It was purchased along with the car...

I can't imagine they would refer customers to shady practice warranty companies...

Cylinder #6 Rod Bearing Failed and confirmed

Sandy Sansing BMW was contacted by PDS warranty company today, and they stated that it would be tomorrow or Monday before the inspector will arrive to look at the car...

PDS also stated that they may have to send an inspector out to the dealer several times over the course of approving or denying this claim next week before making a final decision...

The warranty companies they offer have nothing to do with BMW which is why all BMW dealerships offer different 3rd party warrantys.

I would go ahead and start reading all the fine print of your agreement. Including exclusions and required maintenance.

I have read and re-read and re-read them... According to my contract, the only reason that an internally lubricated engine part would not be covered is if the owner of the vehicle did not follow the appropriate maintenance schedules in accordance with the manufacturer mandated service intervals... And my service history exceeds even BMW's recommended service intervals...

If you have a platinum level warranty as I'm assuming you do that means it is an exclusive plan, meaning it includes everything unless the part or service is explicitly stated as not covered in the contract (or you break a different part of the contract such as maintenance). A lower level warranty would be the opposite (inclusive), meaning it would only cover things that are explicitly stated in the contract and nothing more.

A lot of these guys are being awfully negative but your ducks seem to be in a row here. Even inclusive warranties cover major engine components like bearings, so given that you have all of the service records, I can't think of any reason they would deny the claim. Good thing you purchased the warranty!
