Griots products pictured below. Various brushes and towels. Drove car then let cool about 3 hours so it was warm but not hot. Covered air intake, applied engine wash liberally everywhere including underside of hood, scrubbed away, washed off, repeated. Helps to have a soft long bristled wheel brush and a small brush w a long handle--I retired and used a baby bottle brush...I'm sure my wife will wonder where that went.

After, I ran some errands to heat it up and evaporate all the water. About an hour later I applied the spray-on dressing, covering the carbon intake w a towel first. You can spray the stuff all over, even the sill/black area above the headlights and radiator and beneath the wipers, all the hoses, etc. the stuff works wonders, and makes it easier to clean the next time. It still looks blotchy in the pics but tomorrow it'll look better.

I can't figure out how to post more than one pic at a time, so below I'll post the before and after, and a pic of my AUDI 3.2 I did the same way.

perhaps it's obvious, but the engine is my favorite thing to detail. After all, it's the highlight of any M car. Plus, when you pop the hood, your friends will be astonished because most people are used to seeing a disgusting lump of grease.
