Current Owners! Gauge Cluster at Night?
I was trying to see if any current e92 M3 owners would be kind enough to take a picture of the gauges at night. Since the tachometer is no longer using the light-up red line, I am curious how the moving dial looks at night.
A night-time photo of the dash at night in general would be nice. Thanks This is a continued thread from the photo boards where it got about 11 other forum members interested to see the picture. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...=1#post1661945 |

Alllrighty, sorry for the shaky camera work, did it without a flash and a slow shutter speed so u get a better idea of the colour.
I will try and get a better shot later with a tripod so its not so blurry... Instruments: Console (with LCD screen off so u get the full effect): Now this is the cool part..... this is a standard feature in the Ausi cars, pretty sure its an option in other parts of the world, but this is a b4 and after with the 'Lights Package' option: Last edited by Deej; 11-09-2007 at 12:17 PM.. |

Thanks Deej. I don't believe we have seen pics of your car before. Do you have anymore? I see you got the Individual Hi-Fi? You like?

Sorry Epacy, new to the board (and M cars). Here she is ....(bug splattered and dirty after I had just taken it onto our local racetrack here in Western Australia):
Yes have all options apart from the Comfort Windscreen (radar detectors dont work thru it). The standard Ausi Specifications have pretty much everthing anyway apart from a few items you can see here (http://bmw.com.au/common_content/mod...%C3%A9.pdf) The high end audio is very good in comparison to my wifes X5 (with the Logic7). There is a subby under the drivers seat, and I think in the dash somewhere. Overall, not bad and saves having to butcher your car with an after market stereo unless you really fancy going to town on audio gear. Last edited by Deej; 11-09-2007 at 12:19 PM.. |

That's the exact car I'm ordering, minus the trim; it's great to see some pictures.

How do the white lights compare to the standard orange hue of non M BMW i.e. do they bother the eyes since they seem to be brighter etc?
What would you think if BMW changes the color of all the interior lights to white? I think having one color would look nicer. |

Love the bamboo leather choice! Would love to see anymore pics you have of the interior. Didn't know radar didn't work with the screen. Good info!

Wow! Awesome car. The bamboo looks really good with your setup.
Thanks for being so prompt in taking the pictures. I am a bit surprised that the gauges weren't red at first. I thought that had become a BMW signature thing. The bright white is nice though, I can easily see myself looking at that every night. Is the brightness still adjustable via a manual dial like in the e46 or is it through idrive? |

I have mixed feelings about the gauges. The lighting really seems out of place. The brightness of the gauges is exactly what I disliked about the G37 gauge cluster instrumentation. I am curious as to what degree the brightness can be minimized.

I guess with white gauges with red needles being an M signature, they figured that was enough, and couldn't be bothered changing the rest of the dash lights though? Same across all M models I believe?

Guys the photos are not a good representation of how bright the speado/tacho are. Remember it was done with like a 7 second shutter speed so naturally it will capture more white light during the expsosure then red light,
The white light is very very pro, very easy to read, not all all intrusive on the eye sight. As for more pix, I will take a stack this weekend so that you can see the finer details. |

One thing I can't seem to get past is the price you guys have to pay for the car. In the PDF you attached it shows $A157,000. That's around $145,000 US! We're speculating that the car will start stateside at around $60K US. How does BMW justify more than double the price for Australia? Seems like an extreme "early adopter" tax. I'm betting once the volume increases, the price will come down significantly. I'll wager that's why North America is the last market to receive the car. We're the largest market by volume, so they'll introduce it here (last) at a significantly lower price as compared to ROW. Coming to North America last will have given them a full year to squeeze as much "early adopter" revenue out of the new car as possible. |

While I don't know all the specific including import tariffs and taxes on German cars, it needs to be said that the prices we get here in the States are the exception to the rule. Everywhere else in the world the M3 is selling for what can be converted to $120k +.
So instead of asking how they can justify selling it for so much around the world you should be asking how did we get so lucky as to get such a deal on it. The answer to the latter is that the American market is huge but competitive. So deals and exceptions are made for foreign car makers to compete at such lower prices. |
