Yeah I love the DCT! can't think why you would want a manual after experiencing a DCT! I know the colour is a nightmare! I backed into a wall and had to get the rear bumper painted, it's not a bad match but in certain lights you can see its off, for a perfect match it would have to be blended into the rear quarter and I wasn't prepared to A spend the money and B have even more paint! It was a compromise in the end.

Don't know the numbers but it seems there are a lot ,thinking this thread is only a small part of the worldwide S65 bearing failures !

Seems like I read other threads where BMW was handing out engines like candy before when the engine blew. Now that they got the new M3/M4 they are now tightening up and voiding warranties for anything they can find. They don't need to keep us happy anymore they have moved on...

You guys will be happy to know that the M3 is not the only one with problems. The amazing LS7 Z06 has valve train problems that leads to engine failure to such an extent that it is everywhere on the forums and they are recommending to people that if you buy a Z06 just make sure you have extra $$$ tucked away to service the valve train. I was considering a Z06 but after I read all the horror stories - I didn't.

So this bearing problem seems like the unluck of the draw based on what I have been reading. Does any one year have more problems than others...I read a thread with 2008s and allot of them were over 100k miles???
Is 2011 at risk more or less than other years?

The ls7 is much cheaper to replace. Also the problem you're talking about is cheap to fix for good and never have any issue. People here are changing bearings but clearances remain the same

No it's not - a fresh LS7 is going to match an S65 pretty much dollar for dollar.

Mine is SII too. Soon after getting my car in November 2007, I was wiping the car down after a wash and from a particular angle there was a noticeable difference in the body and rear bumper colour. I raised it with the BMW technical head when he next visited the dealership. He measured the paint depth and various things with a special meter, and ordered a new bumper and a respray. Both areas look 99% closely matched.

Yes, it is very true, it's a hard colour to match.

Someone who had the E60 M5 in this colour had his car sprayed three times following an accident because he was not happy with the colour matching.

IIRC the thermoplastic bumpers use a different process for painting which makes colour match for any colour a problem.

Here are my bearings. Cylinder 1 & 2 rod bearings failed. Attached is also a picture of the crankshaft journal. Bearings have spun within the rod. The Cylinder 1 & 2 connecting rods are damaged as a result.

Depends where you shop. Yes the Ls7 is the expensive end of the Ls based motors but relative to a BMW..

I can build an aftermarket block, built ls7 for cheaper than a BMW> Yes the ls7 is expensive in the ls world, but again not relative to a BMW m3 engine.
