I am not so concerned about the base price. It is the price for an M3 fully optioned that concerns me. My dealer thought 70th was in the ballpark. Problem is I can get a slightly used 911s,M5 or even an M6 for @ $ 70th. The c63 is too much a muscle car lacking in handling ability. Hoping for less than $65 th fairly loaded.

If I'm spending $60k then I'm "moving up" to the next tier of cars - a slightly used M5, 911, RS4, etc are better options for the money and will probably offer better resale as well. I'll end up taking over a 335i lease for a year, then buy a used M3 for about 20% off MSRP. As much as I want an M3, I'm not willing to over pay for it. Look at the M5 resale, dropping 25% in 1 year? Not for me

There is no way in hell the car will be at $52k base. If you know that little about this cars expected price and what you get compared to the competition you should simply forget the M3. Furthermore the 3er is no longer the base BMW model, the 1er is. BMW have made the 3ers larger, more powerful and more upscale. Given the competition at the new (or even used compared to your list) I am pretty confident that the M3 price will represent a fantastic value. |

I think the base will be in the 59-62K range (USD) I am hoping to get mine for 72K per my specs- Nav, EDC, Individual Audio, Premium, 19's and DCT. My lease on the Z4 expires on Sept, 08. If the DCT is is not out by then, or the car is significantly above $72K due to high DCT demand, then I plan on getting the new Toyota corrolla with less than 140hp.... and waitng for the DCT and the demand to drop to get a better price. When I do end up getting the M, having the corrolla would be a good back up car for snowy days or for when I have to go to high risk places.
I realize it will suck to drive the POS corrolla, but its a safe rrelaiable car. Can you imagine the difference when I finally move to the M3 with almost 200% more power. I'm sure it will blow my mind. Not to mention the handling. |

OOps, was going to say, ugly as hell, but what a sleeper!!! Also, higher clearance and 4x4 for cruising over curbs/dangerous peeps in those high risk places!

well I think a simple solution would to be to figure out the exchange rates for what people are paying for in Europe (euros)... Whatever the base in euros is should be something reasonably around the same price in US plus the exporting fees / shit they tack on at the end.

It really doesn't matter what the base price is, as long as my personally optioned car is less than $66,000. That would include met. paint, tech., premium, 19's, upgraded stereo, I-pod and dest.
I really dislike assigning a definitive top dollar, but if I have to pick my ceiling, that's it. Otherwise, I'll entertain a 2006 911S. Not much else tickles my fancy as much as Porsche 911's (excluding the base 911) and the M3. I have considered the GTR, but I can't get around the look. I am on a list for the ZR1, but it's still a vette; although a f***ing monster. |

My option list is exactly the same (except I will wait for DCT), and I hate to say it, but I think $66k is unlikely. I would not be at all surprised if the car as you want it is over $70k list.

It's a sorry state of affairs, but the decline on the value of the dollars versus the Euro could hammer all M3 buyers unless BMW is willing to lose profit to maintain some sort of market share.
My ceiling on base and final cost would be in the range of $66k. |

I don't think $66k is unlikely for that combo...maybe take out dest. The C63 will likely come in at $63K with only a ~$2k Nav option and a ~$7k performance option w/LSD available. That puts the max C63 at $72k before dest, tax, etc. and I'd expect the MB carries the "because we're MB" premium of...say $5kish.

i'm a military sales person also and won't be getting one if it is going to cost me more than 60,000 with all of the options i want (it won't be fully loaded). i'd probably get a 135i and save the rest of the dough for something else, regretting not getting the m3 everday, but still having a fun car to drive. |

If it's over 60K I will rethink the whole situation, especially in light of the fact that we do not get individual options and the color combos offered so far are dismal. I know many won't agree with that but anyway, my 2 cents.
As for what I would get instead? A pristine 01 Ferrari 360 Modena F1 can be had for 120K, seriously thinking to sell a house in 2009 and take the plunge. I really love the BMW brand and the new M3, but wtf? I will see what they do on pricing and options first. I'm deployed now anyway, I will just extend and push my driving dreams back a year.

If you're willing to go up to $120k for a used 360, the Audi R8 comes in at around $108k brand new. You could also get a new Aston Martin V8 Vantage for about $120k.
As for the M3, my upwards limit would be $66k like a few others. $70k for a M3, while reasonable and maybe justifiable based on equipment and the global market, just plainly seems a bit too high. |
