Can your finger get stuck in the seatbelt butler?

My kid is always fascinated when the little door pops open and the arm extends out to hand the seatbelt to the front seat passenger. He always puts his finger dangerously close to the closing door though and am curious if anyone has discovered (the hard way) if your finger could get trapped in there when the arm retracts and the door closes?

Um...maybe? I guess it could happen. Those things aren't the sturdiest items ever engineered by zee Germans, so I'd be more concerned about your kid breaking it than it hurting him. Of all the things on my M, that's the thing I LEAST expect to make it, long-term.

As long as it's not like the automatic Bentley doors, I guess it should be ok. I'd post a picture for those that are unaware, but a quick search for "Bentley crushed finger" will give you an idea of my concerns. It's a bit grotesque so I'm not posting it

Yikes! Yeah, I'm OK not seeing anything like that, but I SERIOUSLY doubt that this thing does anywhere near the damage that a Bentley door could do. Now I'm curious, though. I'm going to have to go find out if there is any kind of "anti-crush" feature for James.

They "break away" under modest resistance and can easily be replaced. Used to happen to mine all the time when I had an E92.

What type of lube does the butler require? I had an e90.

I'm not even sure this post is serious, but I for one don't like soft-close doors. OP mentions Bentley, but any car with soft close doors will break a finger or worse.

Yep, those butlers can be very fancy. Probably a good idea to use a white glove as well.

Good call, less clean up. Safety glasses also are a good idea.
