Z28 runs 1:36 at Barber! geez!!
Just saw the new Z28 ran a 1:36.1 at Barber. Crazy fast! To put it in perspective the Continental Tire Race series M3 set the track record for it's class last April there and its time was a 1:34.5 (http://www.scribd.com/fullscreen/134246733)

Shocking! The camero is ugly in my eyes but it sounds like an amazing performer.

I'm impressed! I never would have thought the camaro would become desirable - but that's one heck of a nice setup.

American cars usually don't do much for me but I was getting a semi on just listening to that 427 engine! Lots of goodies on that car, very legit. If they just didn't look quite so NASCAR...
![]() BTW, gotta love Barber, going there in 2 weeks, can't wait now after that vid!

Nice video. A little surprized about track result. That tells me what a monster of a car an upcoming z06 is going to be.
150HP more than camaro, about 400 pounds lighter with crazy amount of downforce and huge tires. That beast should eat both of these cars for breakfast all at the same time. |

COnsidering the suspension is probably $20k on it's own and an LS7 crate motor is $15k and that puts you at about half the price of this thing, my answer is yes. This thing is outperforming cars more than $30k more expensive. The real question is why not?!?! |

Whenever I see fast lap times from a heavy car I always wonder: How long can it hold it's composure? How expensive would it be operate at a high level?

There was actually a hilarious post by a guy on camaro5 comparing the windshield of a 5th gen with a WWII bunker. I'll see if i can find it again. |

I love the idea of the car, but it really doesn't make any sense. The Z06 will be quite a bit faster, and lighter, for not too much more money. I imagine they will be a hard sell.
I also found it interesting the Porsche managed the same times in street tires. With equal tires it would be 3 or so seconds up the road, and has better street manners. Any it's faster in a straight line. Who would have seen that one coming? |

This is why I ruled the Z/28 out. Consumables will be incredibly expensive. A 3800-lb car will eat through tires (especially those with a treadwear rating <100) and brake pads (even if they are carbon-ceramic brakes) on the track. 305/30-19 Pirelli Trofeo Rs are $560 a piece, and I don't want to know how much replacement brake pads are on the Z/28. I get the feeling that a lot of owners who appropriately track their cars will be in for an unpleasant surprise with running costs.
