No videos yet as I was not timing or anything this weekend due to 'breaking' in the diff. OMG! talk about corner exit speed and getting the power down. Insane acceleration- and I was not getting to full slip angles/power down until the diff fluid is changed after this event. The car is extremely rapid in partial/forward motion and through the gears. Getting to redline in 3rd/4th/5th is just amazing and I saw 6th very quickly in quite a few spots. It's gonna be a fun year!

Awesome! I would love to strip out the interior on my E90. Its a beast at 3700lbs...couldn't imagine if it lost a 300-400 lbs. I'm sure your car is insanely fun!

I see you shorted the final drive but what kind of diff did you get? I'm kind of curious to see how much the M Lock diff can be improved upon...not that its bad in stock form.

Diffsonline triple ramp/clutch: I have the same diff but in the e46 M3 version. The ring and pinion are also a different gear ratio. The e46 M3version is $4300 and the e9x is even more. How is it different? It senses slip sooner and transfers the power to the other wheel sooner/quicker/smoother. In combination with MCS triples or doubles you can pretty much run over large curbs and alligator strips/curbs and just mash the gas and it sticks! Can't do that with stock suspension and diff.
Basically it allows you to go to the gas sooner. More throttle and sooner.

So would a 3 clutch diff have quicker/smoother release characteristics? That would be my main complaint with the M variable lock.

I guess I don't follow your question. Explain when and where you have an issue with the stock diff.

The OE m variable diff seems to be a step behind especially when you start to get into a tank slapper. I would guess that the clutch diff would be better since it has faster engagement.

The problem I had with my metric mechanic 3 clutch LSD on my 330 was the clutch packs would groan when it got hot. I added FM to 75w-140...still would groan.

I think I'd take the groan at this point.

I have never been in a tank slapper with either the stock or diffsonline unit so can’t speak to it. You shouldn’t be doing that nor getting sideways much if you want to be fast. So if it is better in that regard it would be by chance. My car is too loud to know whether the diff groans or not.......it does whine a bit though. But I have solid diff, subframe, trans, and engine mounts, stripped, caged with no sound deadening.

It should be noted that a diff cooler "might" be a good idea with this specific diffsonline unit. That is for 20-30 minute sessions. The OP is testing that out the next few times out. BTW the off the shelve diff coolers you see for sale only work for short durations. Longer races/sessions would require a custom kit we developed
