Don't think it should be. Could have sworn I've seen Canadian members do it before. Maybe give them a call and ask. The container you send in is tiny so shipping expensive wouldn't be the issue.

Who what would be elevated on the newer bearings without lead?

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

I already did mine and shipped it via UPS. No problems. I think it cost me an additional $20 or so to ship.

No one expects "goodwill" repairs from BMW. We expect them to do their damn job properly and not design engines that self destruct far sooner than they have any right to. especially when they charge us an arm and a leg to buy their cars.

exactly, an engine that is properly maintained and fails at 53,000 miles (some much lower) with this kind of damage is inexcusable and should be fully covered by BMW. I would hope that could be expected from this company. I'm sure I'm starting a war and some will say "Hey, it's a very small percentage of engines that failed so clearly it's not an issue" I disagree, I think this is an issue and should be covered by any dealer. To have an identical failure even on a small percentage of engines is an issue. Sadly, I think for whatever reason, that we all can not expect to have the same results as the OP with BMWNA being as generous. I'm actually shocked at his results with them. With my 24ppm lead and an extended warranty expiring next year, I'll be watching my oil reports closely.

Congrats OP - more than likely BMW will cover any such failures especially considering that other lawsuit they ended up paying out.
Problem is we are still leaving it to chance hoping they will goodwill in case of failure, what if they don't and one has no warranty? We need to find a way to take control, away from BMW, of this situation. Class Action ???

keep track of the metal wear levels in your blackstone reports, looks like early signs are mostly lead. Lead will progress into other metals (iron, copper)

What? I was willing to pay an independent shop to *fix* my problem. Once they found out it was worse than quoted, that's a faulty part on BMW's behalf. Is it my responsibility to be penalized for a faulty part when I was willing to spend sub $2,000 to fix an issue I knew was not due to my driving habits? I didn't expect a goodwill, they offered this. I was not demanding nor expecting, just bringing them attention to my experience.

Has there been a successful rod bearings claim under extended warranty you can point us to?

In lieu of that, offering goodwill repair and extending warranties on a case by case basis seems reasonable to me. Saying the OP should be responsible for a BMW manufacturing defect is BS. |
