Ording the BPM Stage 1 tune Q's

I have decided to go ahead and order the BPM tune well once I of course ask a question to get a lil feed back first. What options did you 6MT guys choose?

RPM Limit: Dont want to raise it
Speed Limit: Ok with 155
Cold Start Option: Should I remove it being that I still have the factory cats?
Cold Rev Limit Protection: Seems like a good idea right?
Launch Control: Hmmmm any suggestions?
Fuel Octane: 93
Servotronic Changes: Cant find much info on this but seems it just makes your steering tighter the higher the speed?

Had Evolve Tune and then went BPM, just got WAY better Post Purchase Service and has Super Respond Time from Mike.

RPM Limit: Raised to 8600
Speed Limit: Euro Car does not have limit (Assume RPM Limit)
Cold Start Option: Kept, you can always remove it at a later date should you choose (BPM does not charge for re-tune)
Cold Rev Limit Protection: Added and it seems to lessen the bucking at low RPM
Launch Control: Set at 3500rpm, but seems to get a bit too much wheelspin, so you can try 3000rpm
Fuel Octane: 93 (98 RON for me)
Servotronic Changes: You don't get to choose the setting, it naturally just comes with it. I like it a lot.

Hasn't this horse been beat to death? BPM does have some unique features associated with their tune. Besides, didn't BPM offer servotronic tuning prior to evolve?

RPM limit and speed limit: good call on these if you are trying to be as safe as possible, as it means the most obvious check for a tune (difference between your max and default max) won't flag you. As a 6MT guy, you can't blame over-revs on the DCT (i.e. you could probably get away with a 8500RPM limit with a DCT).
Cold Start Option: definitely keep it if you are keeping the cats, that's the whole point of that function
Cold Rev Limit Protection: Depends... if you are the main driver, who cares? You know not to push the car. If you get valet service a lot, it's a good idea, since it will keep them from dogging it when the engine is cold. However, if you take it to a dealership, all that red in the dash may raise some flags and tip them off that you have a tune.
Launch control: 3500 is a popular option.

Here we go.

Evolve does have the advantage of offering the DCT tune for free (I think BPM's is like $800 or something insane like that?), and a long-standing reputation in the E46 M3, E60 M5, 1M communities. And their feature coding is cheaper at $200 vs BPM's $350, but Alex@Alpine kicks both their asses at $60, lol (he will give you DCT for another $60, too).

You do have the potential barrier to communication with Evolve's main tuner guys being in the UK (they have a guy in the States, but I think he's just sales). By all accounts Mike is very easy to get in touch with on the phone (forget about forums, he's always banned), and he's always happy to talk shop. Plus, if your car blows up, it will probably be easier to find and murder Benvo here in the States rather than have to scour the UK for Sal and Imran.

OP: congrats on deciding on the BPM tune. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

To answer your questions, I chose the following:
RPM: 8400
Speed Limit: OEM. Here in Canada, excessive speeding carries serious repercussions, and I don't find myself exploring factory limit too often, so no point.
Cold Start: I love the sound. I just got Dinan axle back installed and it couldn't have sounded better.
Cold Limit Protection: I chose not to get this because only I drive my car, and I keep it below 3K and light load until oil is warm. I suppose that if you are worried about someone else (valet or friends) revving past that, then its a good idea.
Launch Control: I kept it off
Fuel: 91 octane
Servo: I love it. Steering feels much more direct.

In terms of my experience with BPM, I have nothing but good things to say about Mike and his support with his product. As have many others.

It seems that BPM threads are always in the spotlight for a sh*tstorm and that some people seem to have an agenda. My suggestion to "you" guys is to leave it alone. Every time this Sh*t gets started, someone has to poke their ugly, unwanted face into a thread and the thread gets shut down. If this doesn't concern you and you don't have anything valuable to add to a thread, then don't say anything.

what?

the DCT will not allow you to over rev, like you could easily do on a manual by mis-timing your shift or shifting into the wrong gear

not sure what you are talking about here

Don't know what he's talking about, but I went for RPM limit though.

The car will literally limit you as that redline bar drops. So int he beginning, mine won't let me rev over 4k RPM. Then it progressively increases the limit.

I still don't go over 3k when it's cold.

I went with 4000 RPM limit. Something to be said for self control/valet issues but after 4 months I still bounce off it in the morning if the coffee hasn't kicked in yet. It's very self-critiquing.

Edit - YMMV w/launch control. I used it twice, got it to hook the second time and haven't used it since. Cool capability though.

If you are letting the DCT shift for you in the higher modes, it will exceed the 8400 rpm limit on occasion. Mike has posted charts on this subject. My car was read pre-tune and my max rev was 8500. Mike has his limiter at 8600 and super aggressive DCT tune, so his car has registered 8800.

Haha I've done that a few times too. Had to fly out of my neighborhood and not get hit by cars behind me.

I've also used the LC twice. More of a cool conversation piece than anything haha.

Ah ok, yes that's correct. Stock DCT's can exceed 8400 somehow. Benvo's car is actually MT, but I think he's got his limiter all the way to 8800. Mine is at 8600. Read pre-tune was something like 8550.
