Good news for California cars with Throttle Actuator / Idle control device problems
Hi all,
I've got an 08 M3 with about 50k miles. I've been out of warranty for about a year and a half. Over the past couple months my totally reliable car has had a fuel pressure sensor and module go out, and just this past week, the dreaded Throttle Actuator issue. The good news is that the Throttle Actuator and Idle Control Device is covered under the California Emissions warranty by BMW NA! This warranty covers California cars for 7 years or 70k miles. Imagine my surprise when my SA told me this and I didn't have to pony up the costs to fix the car. After some googling around I did find the full list of items covered by the California Emissions warranty. It's in the "Service and Warranty booklet" that came with your car. Or, you can see it on page 38 here: http://www.chapmanbmw.com/PDF/servic...ty_booklet.pdf. And what do you know, Throttle Actuator and Idle Control Device are listed. So for those of you guys in California with Throttle Actuator or Idle Control Device problems you can get these fixed under warranty if you are under 70k miles! |

It's cuz we're already pre-fucked with only 91 octane, we gotta get a lil something back.

HOV/fast lanes are the ONLY smooth roads in the bay area too. Gotta get one of those stickers.

The link I provided was just for reference. All BMWs in California should have this Emissions warranty I believe (but the parts covered will vary from model to model).

Actually, reading further, it looks like our friends in the following states can also benefit:
*The California Emissions Control System Limited Warranty applies to all 2010 U.S. specification BMW vehicles sold, leased, and/or registered in California, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont or Washington. |

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

BMW's fine print says:
The California Emissions Control System Limited Warranty applies to all 2010 U.S. specification BMW vehicles sold, leased, and/or registered in California, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont or Washington. As for symptoms, my car went into limp mode at startup with the check engine light on and had the following errors showing in the iDrive: - Engine Malfunction! reduced power... - Increased emissions - DSC malfunction - DBC malfunction - Start off assistance inactive |
