Once you go through insurance , carfax will show accident involved and you willl have a hard time when you are trying to sell your car. You willlose more then $2500 when you sell your car if your carfax isnt clean. Im surprised how much of the members will rather go for insurance just 2.5k claim. Just because of 2500 then got an accident involved carfax? No way.

Getting compensated for diminished value is great -- you will get a nice $ amount. Except the problem is the M3 is an enthusiast's car and all the people who actually have cash in hand and are searching for a nice M3 will not buy one with an accident on the CarFax.

only defense is to retain detailed copies of the repair but even then the buyer of the car loses that residual value anyways.

I dont care how much the accident costs, as soon as he/she is willing to pay for the damage, I will not go through insurance. I had a really hard time to sell my car before which had an accident involved record just because of a 2000 damage and i claimed the insurance.

I was rear ended by some kid in a previous car, he asked me to let him pay me directly and not report it to insurance. I wanted to be a nice guy and basically took his word for it. I got his phone number and let him go. He basically never returned my calls and burned me. Honestly looking back I don't even see how i was retarded enough to let that happen lol.

One of the reason you pay insurance premiums is to have people that deal with this very situation when it arises. They do this for a living all day full time - you do not. Your carrier will contact the car wash and the car was can pay the insurance company - presuming the car wash has appropriate coverage is a whole different issue. Your payment will not go up due to this type of claim - even if the car wash does not pay. Given the dollars they will get it.
