New And Potentially Positive Pricing Info
So I just got my OCTOBER edition of Car and Driver yesterday. In it, the editors review most of the new cars coming out for 2008 and of course the first one that I looked at was the M3.
In the little snipet about the M3, C/D mention that the base price is only supposed to be about $7,000 more than the 2006 US model. I think that would be great news as I believe the '06 M3 stared in the mid 48's. Could it be that the base USMSRP is really going to be 55K???

I hope so...but which options will be packaged and how much for each is the next question. I'd take 55k, but I tend to talk myself into getting every option.
It kind of makes you wonder where they get that info. Is that fed to them from some "source" at BMW. I would assume they have a decent relationship with the right people. I've purchased a few BMW's from my local dealer and have a good relationship with the new car sales manager. He generally calls me (or forwards the email) with any new information as soon as he gets it. Which, unfortunately, is generally after someone else has leaked it on the Internet.

2006 M3 base in the US was $48900, so +$7k would be more like $56k. And, since we are all speculating here, I don't think so. The best case scenario in my mind is higher 50s, say, $58k. And, yes I like splitting hairs, even when speculating...

My old E46 M3 with everything but nav was $58k.. At this price point of starting out at $56k... Adding a few options and I think a porsche is a better buy, just seems a lot to spend on a 3 series.

My guess is a 12% increase due to the new technology and skipping a model year. 12% is a hefty base increase, but even at 12%, that puts the base price in line with all the 54K rumors. If they are going for the rumored volume, 54K base makes much sense. Puts the car within reach of many on a budget, but BMW knows that many will be folks woth money to burn and will option the car out, adding to BMW's coffers. Not to mention the steep Euro nation prices, those poor guys jeez. 54K for the US market sounds right IMHO.

I am thinking a 335i was an LSD is a better buy.. Especially since you can chip it and get some good power out of it. You can get a full loaded 335i and chip it and LSD it for probably $10k less than the M3 base price and you are stuck with a car thats only .3-.4 seconds slower to 60. All the track modes and stuff doesnt really matter to me since I usually only go to the track once a year.
