I almost forgot.
The 'REALLY' good news is that we averaged just over 20 mpg on the test, and on one journey back to the hotel after resetting the gauge I managed 24.3mpg, despite taking a few of the roundabouts on the way sideways. That's really, really good news. The M6 I drove on the same occasion could do no better than 16mpg, and frequently dropped to 12-13mpg. My CSL which admittedly got driven rather harder, was giving around 19mpg, so I reckon BMW were not lying - the new M3 'really' will be as economical as the E46 M3. |

Also they ride fine on the kind of poor roads we have here in the UK (the test was undertaken in Wales), so there is no penalty to choosing 19" wheels over the 18" ones.
I wonder if the roads in Whales are as bad as the ones in the states.. particularly New England? I'm nervous the 19's will be too harsh on these horribly bumpy roads... |

Honestly, We are so caught up in what we thought the new M3 was going to be, that many of us have not stopped and actually thought about whats in our lap. This is a GT car that can be as docile as we need it to be on weekend trips, dates and haul'n "pops" around with 2 sets of gold clubs in the trunk. But within an instance, you have something that can run with the elite. Think on that. 16 speaker stereo system, dual climate control, nav, ride control, nice plush seats, active steering that can isolate and remove you from the dolldrums of everyday driving and traffic and let you submerse yourself in your own little world.... ....until that noisy Dodge Viper SRT or Ferrari 360 comes along and then it's time to play! -Garrett |

Regardless of road, there's honestly little difference between the way 19s and 18s feel. The only thing 18s buy you is more sidewall which could make the chance of bending a rim slightly less (at least in theory).

I have a different perspective. IMO, 19s will not be noticeably different with EDC, due to it's active adjustibility but without EDC there should be a difference. Can't wait to hear a review of a base model M3, minus the electronic aids.

Brakes were fine. They didn't squeek like the launch cars so they weren't using race pads, and they felt strong and had good feel. Really we had no issues on the road, and neither were there any problems on the few track laps that were done later in the day.

It took me a while to reaquaint again, but I began to really enjoy it when I settled back more and enjoyed its wider capabilities. As has already been implied it works best when used as a GT car, with the ability to turn up the excitement as required. I enjoyed chasing that red-line at 8400rpm, but also just squirting it out of slower corners - you don't have to be driving it hard to enjoy.
However I decided earlier on last week that I will go for the CSL version, so will have to wait until later next year myself. |

Thanks for the info. Glad to have something concrete come across. You said before you would take the E92 M3 over you E46 CSL. Do you still feel that way?

I think by that defination, you'd be looking for the car that's the most "fun" to drive.

I do firmly believe though that many people who chose to buy an E46 CSL would find this new E92 M3 more than a fitting replacement. |
