I am about to roll over 50,000 and made the aggravating decision to go for the extended mechanical, platinum/6 year warranty. My car has had no mechanical issues so far, and I hope I get something out of the warranty, but the peace of mind every time I hear something abnormal in the engine or tranny will be worth it I suppose.

28k miles May 2008 build.
No Tracking, Spirited Driving. Clutch and Flywheel and clutch pedal spring changed under warranty earlier in the month for issues with 3rd gear. Evaporator and all a/c lines changed under warranty 2 months ago for multiple issues of leaking Freon since 6 months after buying car in 2008.

Going strong
I decided to opt out on the extended warranty, doing the math it sounds like it doesn't make good sense. I garage my M in the winter, am at 43 now and absolutely no problems at all. I have no intention of getting rid of it and may add some more things since I have so much in it already, why not???? I got a little X3 for daily and this works out perfect for me.

70k miles. No track. Just spirited driving. Only items out of ordinary: seat belt extender broke and fixed (warranty), windshield cracked from mirror down (they would not cover so out of pocket), little orange light on shifter replaced (bad grounding), 3 tire punctures (bad roads in NE). Other than that runs better than ever.

Had taken it in last Friday for service and alignment (just mounted new ties), and asked them to do an inspection. Looks like everything checked out fine.

Let's look at this from the other side. What large failures has there been? Engine failures, trans failures, diff, ECU, the expensive stuff.

New steering wheel trim for it and it's good to go. I think the E9x M3 is one of the most reliable cars from BMW out there. |

just ticked over 47K, 5 trackdays and hope to do some more when it gets cooler. I had some issues with a mystery intermittent starting problem which was traced back, after much grief thanks to a terrible dealer/service dept, to a faulty starter. Has been perfect otherwise.
