Viper ACR-X laps the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7:03
The Viper ACR-X laps the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7:03[/SIZE][/B] The twists and turns at Nürburgring are no match for the muscle-flexing SRT Viper ACR-X. Time and time again the Viper has set records at the famed German circuit. Backed by amazing people and phenomenal engineering, our future looks promising. When it comes to mainstream non-street legal cars, the Viper ACR-X sits atop the charts at Nürburgring, lapping the "Green Hell" in 7:03.058. The monumental run surmounted a 10-second advantage over its road-going sibling – the SRT Viper ACR. Viper fans know the ACR-X as the mandated vehicle for all race teams that compete in the SRT Viper Cup. The SRT Viper ACR-X comes equipped with a Viper V-10 engine that whips out 650 horsepower. The ACR-X is also fitted with a track-tuned suspension, modified headers, a low-restriction exhaust system, factory-designed roll cage, fuel cell and a race seat. There is no match when seeking to test every facet of a vehicle than taking to the Nürburgring Nordschleife. As always, the Viper SRT passes with flying colors, setting the bar higher with each pass. That's a really fast time on the Nurburgring (Congrats to Dodge), but wait til the 2013 SRT Viper comes out... It might even outperform this one!

This is a non-street legal, pure race car. Can't see the new one bringing more to the table in legal set up. |

The new Viper will be a serious force to be reckoned with. They will be going for the 700hp mark. Whatever you may say, when you look at ring times for street legal, non-superexotics, the Amercians dominate with the Viper and the Vette.

Of course, the Viper and the Vette put up amazing times around the Ring. Where did I say otherwise? I simply was questioning the suggestion that the street legal version will be faster than the ACR-X...a dedicated, non-street legal race car. |

track-tuned suspension : street legal, so it could make its way to the 2013 ACR. modified headers : likely an emissions issue, probably what makes the ACR-X not street legal. low-restriction exhaust system : likely an emissions issue, probably what makes the ACR-X not street legal. factory-designed roll cage : makes you safer, not any faster fuel cell : makes you safer, not any faster race seat : makes you more comfortable when the car jukes around, not any faster (unless you happen to lose your composure in the race seats that the ACR already has) a few carbon pieces to save weight : (@3300 lbs) makes you faster, but the "srt-10 carbon" edition is even lighter than the ACR-X anyways... (@3200 lbs, -100 lbs) so the options are out already there to lighten the base ACR even more than the ACR-X front canards : makes you faster, the 4 little pieces on the bumper could be made stock with the 2013 ACR. Or simply a new 2013 splitter/bumper design could out-perform the ACR-X canards. Basically : If, The 2013 ACR has more power than the "ACR-X's power with modified exhaust" Then, The only thing holding back the upcoming 2013 ACR from being faster than the ACR-X is a few street legal changes. The only non-trivial change being the uprated suspension. -scheherazade Last edited by scheherazade; 02-27-2012 at 07:08 PM.. |

Doesn't roll cage stiffen chassis rigidity, Reducing body roll, increase handling, making it faster?
Race seats save weight too. Headers and exhaust can be 50ish hp right? |

2013 can have a stiffer [than pre-2013] chassis in stock form. The stiffness deficit may not be as big as the "ACR" vs "ACR-X with roll cage". There are other factors that can netto make up for a deficit (if it will exist) in stiffness (tyres/power/alignment/dampers/etc...). The total weight of the 'race only' ACR-X is still heavier than the 'street legal' viper srt-10 "carbon". Hence nothing stops the 'street legal' 2013 from having bits from the 'street legal' srt-10 carbon to make it lighter than the 'race only' ACR-X. 2013 will have a new engine. The new engine [with emission equipment] can be even more powerful than 'the old engine with exhaust mods'. ACR-X is basically a modified ACR. The ACR in stock form is changing too [pre-2013 -> 2013] - being modified. Case A modification : ACR -> ACR-X Case B modification : ACR -> 2013 ACR At this point, no one can say which change is more significant. Just look at what's going on with the 911. New Carrera S is at the heels of the old GT3. Anything can happen. My main point is this : The [plus a few hp] emissions mod is what makes the ACR-X not street legal - and the [street legal] stock 2013 could be more powerful than the ACR-X. The other 'go fast' stuff that the ACR-X has could be put into the 2013, and the 2013 would still be street legal. So it's up to the manufacturer to make the call about 'how much' is 'enough' - they could go small, or they could go big. Time will tell, but it's too early to call either way. -scheherazade Last edited by scheherazade; 02-28-2012 at 01:18 PM.. |

- roll cage does stiffen the chassis significantly = much better handling.
- race seat = lighter weight. 50-100lbs easily. etc... there is no way the new street viper gonna get close to this time. Quote:

2. As the old Viper ACR is ~10s off the pace of the ACR-X (approximately 2%), why wouldn't a chassis with an additional 4-6 years' of development & materials science advancement be able to make up that 2%? Last edited by Rissei; 03-05-2012 at 02:05 PM.. |
