Reason is; heating and cooling cycles, even minor ones, are helpful for break in.

So I finally picked up my M3 from the Baltimore port and driving back the oil level message popped up and showed I was a quart low. That message didn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling and all I could think of was the engine seizing while driving the 200 miles back to Virginia. Made the trip back with no problems and just took the car in today for it's 1200 mile service and since I purchased the vehicle overseas, through a BMW military purchase program, the car isn't registered with BMW NA yet. I will have to pay for the service, still awaiting price for that, plus U.S. map install which the service writer quoted for $480! The SA told me that I would get reimbursed for the service. Anyways, I'll pick up the car tomorrow and report back on prices and how the car is driving.

Got the car back late Friday from the dealer and they completed the 1200 mile service to include changing the 6spd manual oil along with the engine and diff oils. The total cost for that was $550 but definitely a lot cheaper than having the service done in Europe. Talked with BMW NA and tried to get reimbursed but that was a no-go. They told me to work it out with the dealer and they practically laughed in my face. Didn't cause a fuss over it since it was my fault for not remembering to register the car prior to leaving Europe. Anyways, got the U.S. maps loaded for free. Great service at the dealer and happy to get my car back so now I can finally enjoy driving at the snails pace speeds here in the states. Car runs great! Thanks to all for the encouraging words and inputs.

That's what i was going to do....drive until it is 1200 miles exactly and then call a tow truck using my BMW tow service. Isnt that what is for?

Whoa.....wait a minute. Your overseas agent should have set this up for you based on your requested delivery date and dealership. Us military guys get the deal but boy do we have it difficult when it comes to a smooth transaction. I had my issues.....

Glad you have the car and lets see some pics! Thanks for your service.

Ah, I wish it were for that. I had no problems eventhough I was worried about the drive. I drove the car very cautiously, no stomping on the gas or using cruise control, and the car made the trip with no problems.

You are 100% correct about my salesman overseas. He told me that I would have to register the car with BMW NA just prior to shipping when I orginally picked up the car but failed to ensure the car was registered at the time I dropped the car off. I had to take my car back to the same place I placed the order and one would think the salesman/agent would make certain that the car would get registered but he didn't. I had completely forgotten about it until I got back to the states and wasn't reminded until last week when I took the car in for service. Curious to hear what issues you had and if it was from the same person.

I'll post some pics just have to take them first. I do have some photos of my car back in Italy on my profile. Thanks for your service as well.
