That's the first time I've heard that. But to be honest, I don't follow DCT because I'm 6MT, so it may have been discussed a thousand times and I wouldn't know it. But I am curious about it. Do you have a source or pointer that I can read more about it?

To my knowledge, Dinan is the only aftermarket company where I have seen them standing behind their warranty on 2 occasions and replacing the defective part and other BMW parts that were allegedly damaged by it. They even worked directly with the BMW dealer and BMW USA to arrive at an agreement over those other parts that were damaged. Having Dinan stand behind something means more when the warranty has actually been tested and successfully resolved in the customer's favor.

The M3 GTS is filled with one liter more oil from the factory. Not sure if this includes a modification of hardware from the standard DCT, or just the addition of more fluid.
The transmission is the M DKG Drivelogic GS7D36SG according to the factory docs I have. For the standard M3 it lists the transmission as the GS6-53BZ or the GS7D36SG w/ 1 liter less oil than the GTS variant. Engine wise the bore is the same, but the stroke is 7.2mm more bringing displacement from 3999cm/3 to 4361cm/3 (S65B44M0 vs S65B40O0). 200kg less, and it appears that the GTS also may have a longer final drive ratio. What a great improvement to an already amazing car. Last edited by BPMSport; 04-16-2014 at 02:06 AM.. |

Apparently the gearing is the same per this document except for second. It shows the GTS at 3.056 versus ours is I think: 2.933...the rest is the same - even the final. Also read this: "BMW uses the M Dual Clutch Drivelogic gearbox developed for the BMW M3 to transmit the higher power output. As the power lift is modest there was no need to upgrade the box. Being a dual clutch type, the gear shifts are truly seamless and even when Drivelogic is put to max it remains relatively smooth although you will notice the increase in shift aggressiveness. Its gear shift characteristics have been tuned to suit the characteristics of the modified engine in the BMW M3 GTS." So the GS6-53BZ is the MT for the M3, and per your factory docs the GS7D36SG code is the same for the GTS as the regular M3 only w/ 1 liter less oil .... Interesting...never thought it would be exactly the same. Last edited by M3-S65; 04-16-2014 at 01:26 PM.. |

Regular M3 MT has a 2nd 2.396 Regular M3 DCT has a 2nd 2.933 and the M3 GTS appears to have a 2nd of 3.056 Also, as far as the "final drive" Document states... Gear ratios I :1 4.780 II :1 3.056 III :1 2.153 IV :1 1.678 V :1 1.390 VI :1 1.203 VII :1 1.000 R :1 4.454 Final drive :1 3.154 What am I missing? I'm a little slow today... Dinan DCT Tune
I have been reading about the Dinan tune for the DCT transmission which they say will smoother out the upshifting/downshifting especially in D mode. Mine tends to be a bit jerky especially in low rpms and through the first few gears. I am wondering if anyone here has gotten this tune from them and how has the feel of the car changed? Is it a significant improvement which makes it worth getting? Also if anyone has gotten this tune and lives around Chicago, I would love to meet with you and go for a ride and feel the difference.

Find someone with the GTS tune. I suspect it's the same thing or is extremely similar. Dinan's description sounds just like the GTS tune.

I would think that reducing the jerkiness and speeding up the shifts would help the tranny last longer? A smoother shifting tranny would last a lot longer. Less clutch slippage, better and smoother into gear...I'm all for it!

If anything, doesn't smoother shifting mean there is MORE clutch wear?
