This ruined my morning. Nothing worse than the perfect car being ruined by the stupidity of others. I hope everything works out for you. Good luck.

Still figuring out the details, but if it does go the way of total loss... What would you slap the drivetrain into? I know it's in great shape and would be fun to let the stripper live on vicariously. Figured it could make for a fun discussion.
Once upon a time I swapped a built up LS1 and T-56 into a stripped RX-7 Turbo II for the intention of track car. That sure was a hoot. What would you do? |

I like the idea of reincarnating the spirit of your stripper. I'm thinking keep the S65 within the BMW family: 1) Plenty of E46s with S65s these days so if you want to do something a little different and stick with the stripper theme, then either an E36 M or E86 Z4 Coupe would be appropriate, as they are lighter/smaller cars. 2) E89 Z4 a la Z4 GT3 would be a cool homage, but in street form it's not a very talented chassis nor would it be a simple swap. You'd be doing it for the looks and brownie points more so than the driving experience. But this would make your build pretty much one-of-a-kind. 3) E82 1er would also be quite appropriate, kind of like Marco (ilikebmxbikes)'s build. An E82 would keep it within the same generation of cars so it would feel more "natural" and factory feeling, if done right. 4) E91 as mentioned above, there's a weight penalty, but like an E82 1er S65 swap, you'd basically be creating something that BMW should've/could've/would've from the factory. All depends on what you're feeling going forward.

E86 Z4 with an S65 would be wicked. I was very tempted by an E86 M back when I was shopping for my E46 M3.
Like a number of Bangles designs, I reckon the E86 has aged really well. Saw one yesterday in sterling grey (same as my E85) and it looked terrific. |

The problem with estimates on these types of accidents is that they start low. Once they begin disassembling, that's when they find more damage and the price skyrockets. Many times, if the estimate is close to the value needed to total the car, they'll just call it totaled and save the additional expense of having the body shop spend a few hours taking it apart.

E82 would also be trick. I just get the feeling that it would be "too much" for the car with such a short wheelbase. I've never driven one, though, so I have no idea! E91 would have the "cool" factor for sure, but we're considering picking up an F31, so I don't think I need two of them And I really don't care for the E89's. If they would have made a hardtop variant, I'd probably be on board, but I also think the associated costs would run too high. Another option to buy it back for cheap (assuming "frame" is in good shape) and turn it into a track car! Quote:

Update for those that are interested. After nearly two months of negotiating with insurance companies, I have finally agreed to accept their total loss valuation. I wish I could have worked out more with a salvaged value to bring the car back home to turn into a track car or something fun, but we are just too far apart for it to make sense. I'll post up the VIN once I'm paid by the insurance company so whomever is interested and willing to lurk the auction houses can have an eye out. It has a lot of care put into it and a tough spec to locate. Absolute zero option 2011.75 E90 slicktop 6MT with manual Speed Cloth interior (08/11 build). As described to me by Sickfinga, it is a one of one car and one of five if you disregard color.
Rod bearings changed in the S65 with a lot of preventative maintenance items taken care of. If the car needed it, it got it. If it didn't need it, it still got it. Only "ifs" were a possible fuel tank breather and/or ICV on their way out with a very rare and intermittent idle bounce. New Vibratechnic motor mounts Borla ATAK exhaust New Auto Solutions shifter Dynavin in dash Newer plugs PFC pads Has an unknown (to me) subframe condition. My guess is that front right suspension is definitely gone with possible damage to the K frame and steering is wonky (may just be blown tie rods?) Doors structurally open and close as expected with no buckling to the roof or pillars - door linkage for driver's side doesn't work as should. All panels have made contact to some degree with the hood, trunk, rear bumper, and (with some love) the front bumper can be saved. Fenders, doors, sills are gone unless you really enjoy bodywork. Head lights and tail lights are in good shape along with all glass intact. Driver's side front and rear windows are scratched. Staggered 359 wheels are gone - you may be able to salvage one of them with enough working on the curb Interior is immaculate and honestly looked like new at the time of the accident. Maybe two people have ever sat in the rear seats and very conscious movement during entry and exit of the vehicle to avoid any scratches or imperfections to the bolsters. No airbags deployed (driver's bag had not yet been replaced under the recall, so chunk it anyway) I think that's it? Obviously I'm still here and will continue to be a part of the group. I'll see a bunch of you next month for the Dragon Run! As of right now we've got a pair of Jeeps and I'll hold tight for the next replacement. I keep jumping around on what it is I want, but I just can't seem to steer away from another E90. I've owned a lot of different cars, and this was truly the first one that I liked every last damn thing about. It was a forever car, so I don't think it will be too long that you'll see me back with its replacement. I wish I could have brought this one back home to turn into a track rat, but the cards just weren't there. Until then! -Tyler |

Shit happens in life and it could have always been worse. Strip away the emotions and in the end it's just a bunch of metals pieces glued together. The people that surround you with love are what truly matter and I'm glad you and anyone else in the vehicle came out untouched. Cheers mate! |

Last "refresh" I hit showed $9,600 before it was labeled as sold. Not sure if that's what it went for, but must have been close.
Was talking with a member on here that was actively bidding. Hope he got it! He's local and intends on fixing to daily drive it. Would be sweet! |
