I went over the instructions a couple of times to make sure that I had it properly configured...Besides the BMW-side AND the iPhone side configurations, the clincher of the process was making sure that the iPhone was in locked-screen mode. .

Under Settings, Bluetooth in your iPhone, go to the devices connected where it shows your BMW has paired, open that and turn on "Show Notifications". Then under Settings in your iPhone go to "Notications" then under each heading "Phone" "Messages" "Mail" make sure you have the following turned on: Notification Centre ON Alert Style Alerts - I use banner, and works fine Badge App Icon ON Show Preview ON View in Locked Screen ON As for the "no sound on the phone or car with incoming messages", I too had this issue nagging me for a while. If we are talking about the same thing, here's how I solved it. In the iDrive bluetooth menu (can be accessed a couple different ways), you have the option to select bluetooth for __ telephone __ audio __ office. Just make sure that Audio is deselected. Try that out. I don't stream music from my phone via Bluetooth, so doesn't complicate things for me.

okay I finally got the BMW update to take...I used my windows computer to transfer the file, I was using the Mac Pro before. However, at first I received all the most recent texts that were already read then I tested it with new text and nothing(phone is on lock screen)...didn't even get a notice on the phone neither but when I opened the messages on the iPhone all the messages that I sent from my other phones were in there. I didn't get notification or the red number on the top right of the message icon.

After making all of the above changes as noted in the posts, unpair and pair the phone then it will all work seemlessly. I was struggling initially but once I had done this it was fine.
This is what I did with my wife's F25 X3. I am yet to try this with the '07 M3 with CIC transplant Last edited by aussiem3; 09-20-2012 at 06:23 AM.. Reason: added info |

I didn't do anything with my iDrive software. I have a 2011.5. Just configured iDrive and the iPhone. Keep trying! Starting over with unpairing and deleting the Bluetooth connection on the phone never hurts.

Inside iDrive you can find the software version you currently have, and if it's something like MX-3.5.4 and TX-3.5.4, then you probably have the latest version. Instead, I'm supposing your problems are not on the on-board software version, but rather configuration...or usage. I see your follow-on post. When you write it is "not working" what's the situation? For instance: a) phone shows bluetooth is operational (icon) b) phone SLEEP button is activated OR it is in time-out lock mode c) you have received a SMS text message (not an e-mail) WHILE the phone is sleeping/locked. All of those conditions above must be active in order for it to work. .

And then...driving around today, I noticed that I had...an e-mail show up in iDrive. Yes, it was a genuine e-mail, not a text message. I did the voice-play back thing, and it worked. But I didn't get the audible "ding" of an incoming e-mail, and then I went back (as someone suggested) and un-checked "Audio" from the iDrive bluetooth configuration. Then an hour later, I got another e-mail, but it did NOT appear on iDrive. Uh...oh. So...maybe that wrecked it, or perhaps getting e-mail in the first place was a slip-up in the system. Don't know, but having put all of the configuration back to where it was this morning, I am again NOT receiving e-mails. Strange.... (I've never used so many emoticons before on the same posting, LOL.) .

I wouldn't worry about email in this release. Email was rock solid in Beta 3. Beta 4 and the GM have issues with email that will hopefully be addressed in the next update from Apple.

Email Issues
I logged a call with BMW about the email issue not showing up in iDrive.
I just got the following reply - they know about the issue and they are going to issue a new firmware to solve the problem. We have now escalated the matter to Germany AG and Apple. BMW Technical could only get the BlackBerry device to sync with the idrive system and not iOS6. As per BMW Technical, a firmware needs to be developed for your vehicle to recognise MAP (MAP ACCESS PROFILE) to synchronise emails on your idrive system. This case is currently logged on our system, I will report back to you next week on progress. Thanks Regards BMW (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd |

Great thread! Thanks for all the useful information. I was able to get this to work this morning.
One thing I noticed that may help others. After updating, restarting, repairing and setting all the options I couldn't get text messages to show up in the filter or in idrive when the phone received one. When I went into the office from the main menu it went straight into messages, showing the email filter with all of the google poi that I had sent myself. If I tried changing the filter, the text messages option would not show up. I then pushed left on the idrive control knob to get to the office main, scrolled up and selected current office. This opened the screen that shows the total unread messages, as seen on picture #1 of the OP. Then, I selected that and voila, the list of available messages refreshed and I can now see the text messages option on the screen and the text messages show up in idrive when the phone receives them. So if anyone is having some issues, try to back out of office and refresh it as I described above. Hope this helps! Ed |
