2008 M3 price check please

Hey guys,

I am new to the forum and thinking about pulling the trigger on a 2008 m3 but wanted to see if I was over paying or the price is right. Your feedback is much appreciated.

2008 M3 sedan
6MT
72,000 miles
3 owners
Space Gray exterior
Black interior
Very good condition
No accidents on carfax but bumper covers refinished in the past
Nav, sunroof, EDC, enhanced audio, comfort access
Rod bearings replaced, new tires and all fluids changed

$29,000 price

Thanks in advance!

Sounds about right. A great deal on it would be 27k. Overpaying would be 31-32k. Hope that helps.

Hard to make accurate recommendation w/o pics...but based on what info you gave us, I'd agree with the previous post...

Get a PPI, check brakes ($$$) and suspension. When were plugs done last?

New pads, but original rotors. No records of sparks plugs being changed. Is this an easy DIY or expensive job? Anything I specific I should look for regarding the suspension?

Thanks for all the feedback guys!!!

Rotors are $250+ each. Plugs are supposed to be done every 37k miles. A set of NKG plugs is around $60, it can be a PITA without the several hundred dollar BMW coilpack removal tool. There is also a $35 tool that a forum member makes and sells which has great reviews. Look for the usual suspension issues, shocks, tie rods, bushings, squeaks on the test drive over bumps, wheel bearings etc. Things that wear out, remember the M tax applies on these parts too.

For an 08 with that mileage you'll need:

1. Rotor change (all corners)
2. Spark Plugs
3. rear diff fluid flush
4. brake fluid flush
5. pad change (all corners)

I'm assuming last time anything was done was around 30k miles.

Is it expensive? Hell yes. M tax at its worse here. I literally just went through all the above at 60k.

$1200 in parts, sourcing it myself, $900 indie labor. Once you do this, it'll be good for the next 2-4 years for various items. Almost be like a brand new car.

The dealer can buy this car for $25-26k in the wholesale market if that helps you to know...

That's roughly the same price as mine I have for sale, except I've done all the maintenance items listed, have "cooler" parts on my car and it's newer

All Fluids changed recently. The plugs were last changed at 35k.

How long do rotors typically last on the average m3? Any issues riding it out with the new pads at 72k? Sounds like all 4 rotors need replacement next time around.

What do you think is a good price? The seller is not very negotiable or so he says. He keeps hanging his hat on the money recently spent on the new rod bearings.

Is a private party purchase a couple grand lower than wholesale typically at this price point?

Nice car! Too bad it's not a sedan.

Rotor wear varies car by car, you need to check for thickness.

If your spark plugs were last changed at 35, then sounds like it's time again to do this. Don't forget rear diff fluid flush too.

I think the price sounds fair.

I thinks the price is right on point, especially with rod bearing replacement receipts. All the other stuff is normal wear and tear, time to suck it up and pay the M tax as stated above. If you DIY it greatly reduces all maintenance costs.

I'm thinking about selling my 08 e90 6MT Loaded. Interlagos blue on Bamboo with 75k miles. Had rod bearings done by BMW at 55k miles and of course both throttle body actuators around the same time.

Car is like new with brand new Michelin Tires and needs nothing. I'll probably list it for 29k. I'm in SF.

08/09s can sell in any range between $25 and $31 depending on mileage, condition, whether major servicing done by owner or being pushed to the next owner...

Not bad, considering the rod bearing job.

I'm selling mine for 26k and it is the exact same car and milage. I have done all maintenance, and new brakes. Mine has rear sunshade. Didn't know if that one had it.
