Anyone know if I can get carplay with my M3?
Anyone know if I can get carplay with my M3? I have a 2009 model. Has anyone seen it working with any aftermarket solution?

If you gotta ask, you can't afford it!!!
In all seriousness, it will probably be expensive to get the OEM carplay software installed, I haven't read about any plans to retrofit older cars. There are more than a few aftermarket options for both Apple and Android devices, but I have not seen a side by side feature comparison of any of it. Would love to see any info anyone has! |

Given that BMW has already launched a next-gen iDrive (called NBT) even before adding CarPlay support, don't count on it. Even if they don't introduce an even newer hardware version for CarPlay, the NBT software won't be compatible with your CIC.
CarPlay also requires a touchscreen, which our displays don't have and aren't appropriately placed to use even if they did. EDIT: Apparently touchscreen input is an option, not a requirement.

That's not true. Touchscreen is just one of the three input methods supported but it's not a requirement. Carplay supports physical buttons and dials like the drive controller.

Oh ok, interesting. You'd still have the software problem, though.

Wanted to start this discussion again as many aftermarket companies such as Kenwood, JVC, and Alpine have or about to release new units. Has anyone thought about installing these? If so, is there any compatibility with our cars or it is it a completely redesign of the stereo system?
