I am considering this shifter for the very same reasons you mentioned, also agree on all you said about autosolutions shifter - it will provide better feel and zero play, but the extra cost and installation dificulty make it less convincing for me.
The sound you describe is present with any proper shifter with a solid steel ball and I think it's normal. I have delrin carrier bushings and turner poly arm bushing so I can already hear some stuff from the gearbox and I think it's cool

Would you mind sending a photo of the knob from above? I also have the M5 knob and I would hate if it was rotated even a bit because of the shifter...
