I know someone locally here in Toronto that changed the main bearing without pulling the engine out of the car but he said he would NEVER do that again. He says if hes going to do it, he will pull the engine for sure. The engine has been supercharged and running meth for the past 25,000km with 0 issues. So I guess it was a success.
