weight of options.

Was curious when bmw specifies the weight of an m3. is that a base model? or one loaded.

What im really interested in is how much weight do you think you have with a stripper car? I dont have nav/idrive, nor edc, but I do have leather seats. I've heard the seats themselves are around ~100lbs heavier all together?

what do yall think?

I've been looking around for information regarding the approximate weight of various options however I'm not sure if anyone has this. It appears to all be speculation.

The main 2 things that add weight from what I have found are the Navi and EDC however. I wish I knew how much though, if that EDC is more than 10 lbs extra weight they can keep that crap.

Sorry, you are most likely incorrect in your assessment. The motors in the power seats and the folding mirrors are going to add a ton of weight. If you guys are really concerned with weight, go with anthracite / speed cloth seats (they come only with manual seats) and order no options on your car. Meaning no Premium, no PDC, none of that crap.

I believe the weights BMW publishes are for cars with no options and all fluids (fuel 90% full).

This isn't really the car to be overly concerned about lightness. If you really want order a stripper and then gut it, order CF race seats and be prepared to hate it as a DD.

Don't forget DCT. That probably adds more weight than any other single option, aside from the power seats maybe.

My guess is that a no-option M3 weighs about 150lbs to 200lbs less than a fully optioned one (assuming the same body style).

Thats what I was thinking. I dont know about others, but I can really tell the difference when im alone vs with a passenger. and with 4, forget about it.

I wouldnt give up my leather seats since I didnt purchase this car to be a pure track car, but if I saved 100lbs by not having all the other gorp, then that makes me happy.

Can you get leather manual seats? I was thinking that leather requires ZP2, which of course adds power seats.

I am in to see how much the DCT vs 6MT weighs.... I doubt it can be a hell of a lot more...just a tad... Weight, is what we do not want but we want fancy...or some people want fancy shit in there. Cant have both worlds mate.

I can only put together what the magazine tests were, given the options they had on their car:

The 2008 R&T E90 sedan:
Only have: speed cloth, cold weather package (therefore power seats in the 08), and 19 inch wheels weighed in at 3585lbs without driver.

the R&T 2008 E92 with:
everything (EDC, Navi) and 18 inch wheels was estimated at 3650lbs

Agreed. I honestly doubt it is much more than 100lbs...if that.

I'd skip the ZCP too since it necessarily adds EDC. Spend the money on lightweight wheels instead.

Yea I'm already planning on doing that... I will be taking DCT though because that option is worth the weight.

I think all these options might add up to 200 lbs... that is a lot of weight and very noticeable. I'm betting a car with just a few options and lightweight wheels would be significantly faster than a loaded M3.

The M division completely failed with the ZCP package imo...

I can't see EDC adding that much weight, thought it is just some sort of electronically controlled valve inside the shock so that plus the wiring to hook it up.

Leather manual seats save 22 lbs over leather power seats ( and have the same number of adjustments). I like them ( and saved $).

just replace the hood/trunk/fenders carbon fiber i dunno i'm just saying?

manual seats are the way to go They also feel more connected to the car

Past estimates are that the DCT is 45 lb heavier than the MT.

I have pulled a NAV unit out before and I estimate only 5 lb for that.
Don't know about the weight of amps for the upgraded sound.
