To supercharge or not to supercharge?

I was wondering about your thoughts on supercharging and E9X M3. I know the power advantages are obviously tremendous but the pressure it puts on the engine are great too. Plus isn't that one of the things that makes and M3 so special the naturally aspirated motor. So what do you think because I'm having a hard time deciding what would be best looking at every aspect. What would or did you do?

I would need to know the kind of mpg that would result from having a blower.... Would it cut my 14/20 to 7/10?? Thats my largest concern.

^^ from what i have read the guys with the SC kits are actually doing pretty well. I guess its safe to say if you are baller enough to afford a SC chances are you are not worried about MPG.

Lol Jimmy, and I go in for standard service and get red flagged To death. I might as well just slap a red sticker on my hood that says "please voide my warranty...I don't need it because I'll just buy a new M if this blower blows my car into pieces"

Ohhh man am I tempted hahaha... Id have to devise a plan to slip this one past the wife!

Since you are located in Socal, give Gintani a call. I believe they make one of the most reliable and powerful SC kits out there.

One of my concerns is also how this affects the life of the vehicle? But honestly, this is a M3. If this is your super car then you know what? Go for it. However in my case, the car is very fast by its self no? It sounds tremendous, if anything maybe just get an exhaust, and cut yourself some money?

But hey, the supercharger is effin badass. If you have money to throw the why not?

MPGs increases with the blower when driven normally (not flooring it). I was able to get around 25mpg on the freeway and 17 in the city when cruising. I had the Gintani kit. I know the ESS guys have experienced an mpg increase as well.

Wıth the blower you now have more torque whıch allows you to stay lower ın the rpm range when acceleratıng normally whıch allows you to shıft sooner. Durıng hıghway cruısıng you would be a the same rpm range, so I ımagıne your hıghway mıleage would stay about the same.

Do it! Car becomes a whole other animal

While cruising, you can get close to stock mileage with proper tuning, but at other times, you will always be adding more fuel versus NA.

And if larger injectors are used, there's no way it can be more efficient than stock.

it is...but it has to do with efficiency. Hopefully someone smarter than me can chime in. But it is a fact that if driven with a light foot the gas mileage will be better.

I think about getting a supercharger so much. Im at the point where I think the m3 is slow , probably because im use to the power.

However there is a couple things that concern me:
warranty issues( Im a 2011 model )
Engine lifespan
money ($10,000-$15,000) is it really worth it?

I can care less about miles per gallon, I get 12mpg now how much worse can it get? I didnt buy a prius.

However there is other expenses also. For example you need a big brake kit ($7,000+/-). If your going to go faster you need better brakes.

Is gets to the point if your going to spend this much money on a m3, its just better to get a gt3.

why do you need a bbk if it doesnt help you stop quicker?

You don't need a BBK

I've seen plenty of S/C M3s without a BBK
