The 135i doesn't have a torque vectoring diff, there is a world of difference between them, even the M-diff isn't as advanced. BMW will be making the switch soon but which model will premier it is any one's guess.

I believe the 335is has an 'overboost' providing quick bursts of 369 lb-ft of torque. If so, let's say you activate it at high RPM.. Shouldn't the max HP rise higher than 335HP momentarily as well.. 335HP seems kind of low for 369 lb.ft of torque if you have it activated around say, 5500rpm. After all, horsepower is just a function of torque x RPM.
369 lb.ft @ 5500 rpm = 386 Horsepower if I calculated correctly. (I believe 335i engine holds max torque till around 5500 rpm if I remember correctly?)

MVF4Rrider wroteThis particular torque vectoring diff is jointly used by Audi and BMW (though there may be slight software differences) and was co-developed between GKN and ZF. Presently it's used only in their awd cars but the diff can universally be used in rwd cars and to great effect as the software can be adapted to suit each style of application and handling characteristic, i.e. this system is very similar to that used by Ferrari in their F430 and most recent F458.I'm always interested in new functional developments. MVF4Rrider wroteThis is unlikely in this case. If anything, this is a swan-song for the N54. Most models are switching to the N55 single turbo dual scroll motor. Only the cars with higher output (and for some reason, the Z4 35i too) retain the N54. By the time the next generation arrives (F0x LCI, F1x LCI, F2x, F3x) the N54 will likely be history.Well sort of... The idea of the 335is is a MY test bed for the new motor.
Sure, but the reason I started the thread is so we'd have a place to discuss the 335is and what is new about it. The thread title was tongue-in-cheek.
footie wroteThe 335is hasn't been developed to be quicker than the M3, frankly the very idea is laughable, no the 335is is here for one reason and one reason only......to beat the S4.
Some posts have been deleted. And i'm being serious, the trolling ends now!

I'm here on m3post to talk/see M3 related stuff, not to get into a dialy pissing contest on N54-based BMWs vs the M3

I agree with mkoesel on this one, this is a new model not a normal 335i which has been modified by a third party.

xxe92xx wroteHow is the S4, Boxster, Corvette, 550i etc., etc., etc. competition to the M3? There are literally dozens of threads in this forum that would be gone if you got rid of this thread. Hello? It is the M3 vs.... forum. It is set up specifically to compare cars to the M3. Just because you don't think some car is worthy of that comparison, doesn't make it so. If you don't like that or cannot handle that for some reason, then why not just stop reading this forum?how is the 335is competition to the m3 tho?
I love how threatened people are feeling by this new car. Hilarious. Makes me even more curious to see how it performs.

xxe92xx wroteI agree with mkoesel and footie here. This forum section was created to give members the option of discussing the performance of other cars in comparison to the M3. This way we can keep the other forums like the general forum or the technical forums free of these discussions, which -- by the way -- tend to be more emotional, sometimes even heated. This also allows everybody to ignore this kind of threads in case not being interested.how is the 335is competition to the m3 tho? the forum description says "m3 competitors" i think this is the wrong section to discuss the 335is perfect for E90 post
I don't think we should be too harsh drawing a line what a competitor to the M3 is and what not. As long as members feel the need to discuss the performance of a car and compare it to the M3, it's most likely in the right place here. Besides, as far as performance is concerned, the 335is is rather close to the M3.

i think sometimes pissing contest should be allowed because that how we settle thing. there is a saying "you won't be friend until you actually fight". it is for the entertaining factor too.

dozens? come on now there are alot of good threads that are worth reading...."Just because you don't think some car is worthy of that comparison" i never implied that those are words coming out of your mouth...point being i dont find this interesting at all theres other cars that could be discussed....this is the same as 335i vs m3, obviously the 335is wont be faster stock but when its modded....what do you think this thread will turn into?
footie wroteMy guess is in the upcoming M1. I should probably say, my hope. The 135i doesn't have a torque vectoring diff, there is a world of difference between them, even the M-diff isn't as advanced. BMW will be making the switch soon but which model will premier it is any one's guess.
mkoesel wroteI'm guessing that officially you could see a set of figure like so, 0-100km/h of 5.2s, 0-160km/h of 11.9s and 0-200km/h of 17.8s. Not quite M3 league but in the real world the difference won't be that noticeable as you might think.Makes me even more curious to see how it performs.
I'm more interested to see track times, if only to see what improvement have been made else where.
adc wroteThat's also my guess but you never can tell. If it does get it ahead the F30 M3 then I expect a few guys making the jump from the present M3, purely because I think it was be more involving to drive and quicker on the track. My guess is in the upcoming M1. I should probably say, my hope.
footie wroteI rather expect the M5 to be the first RWD car getting the torque vectoring diff. The M1 with its modified N55 (S55?) engine and torque vectoring would almost be too good to be true. That's also my guess but you never can tell.
