Searched around but only found some info on the module you can get to make the mirrors fold via remote.

I do not have folding mirrors, but would like to pursue retrofitting them.

Does anybody have a parts schematic, etc. that can help with part numbers, etc. I would be willing to look into the costs, and do it if not crazy expensive. If so, I would do a write up, etc, etc.

It is the one thing I wish the car had without having to get the premium package. I wanted the folding mirrors, but not the other Premium Package stuff. So I didn't order it....now I sort of wish I had.

Any help appreciated......

nope, premium pkg only.
Save yourself the time and money. I folded them once or twice and thought it was cool.... but haven't touched that button in months.
its a very expensive job , yes folding mirrors are cool and sometimes handy.
but you could replace both ur mirrors and a bit more if they are damaged, i am guessing, for the cost of retrofitting these.
Same here. I have asked my dealer.
He told me the that the mirrors need replacement and the door instrument panel, since you don't have the buttons. Also, he told me, it's not prewired.
He advised me not to do it, as it would cost more than the benefit.

He did change some other parts:

If you would have other information... I am still interested in auto folding mirrors.

:word:

Went to the extra expense of fitting autofold mirrors on my E46. I've folded them 1 time.

Plus, probably not a good idea to park in a spot where you need to fold your mirrors. Unless you want lots of door dings and scratches from people rubbing up against your car. Worse, dents from other cars operated by bad drivers.

I bought my car when it was 9 months old from a dealership.. the moron who ordered the car from new added every extra apart from the folding mirrors which would have only cost him £250 which is around $400....
I sourced out how to do it .. you need new mirrors, a new instrument panels and the ecu reprogrammed.. all in all it will cost you about £2000 which is around $3200.
My advice is use your hands!
Crap. Seems like it would not be worht the expense!

Thanks for all the info.

I manually fold my mirrors every time I park at home as our garage is not very wide (plus I have cabinets on both sides.

Guess I will just have to live with it. Too bad you can't just buy the mirrors and pluig them in (and add the switch). Why in the hell would I have to reporgram the ECU? Seems like they would be stand alone. Oh well.

Thanks again for all the info.

Also - this doesn't include coding.

I've been doing some reasearch on this option and I came across your post. Here is a link for what a seems to be a successful retrofit. Hope this helps

Just FYI I am selling my power folding gloss black mirrors.

Link here.
I have premium package, but the mirrors do not fold with the remote. I did some programming/coding on the SSS at BMW, and was able to get my mirrors to fold up when pressing down on the handle to lock the car (comfort access), and then when I unlock the car with the remote they fold back down.

Haven't be able to get them to go up on their own, however.

I would think that you just need the mirrors themselves plus the switch as well as the coding from the SSS (Special Service Station). You don't need an ECU program or anything like that as the ECU does not handle these functions. I think that considering your circumstances if you don't mind the cost of the mirrors themselves (which will be the most substantial in the package), then it's probably worth it.

If your dealer is confused on how to do it, I can walk you though it.

Hope this helps..
^ no idea what you quoted me. An interesting reply but not related to my post.

Mirror folding via the BMW key is no longer an option, this can only be performed with remoteKEY+:

During development we found that the mirror button only gives a command to the mirrors to fold, it does not specify fold or unfold. Since the fold/unfold command is performed by the BMW roundel [LOCK], this isn't a concern with the remoteKEy+ module.
