BBK that will fit 18" Apex EC7 22 offset

I have these wheels and thinking of getting new ones as the old ones are getting a bit beat up. Currently running OEM calipers/discs. I used to have the older APracing strap drives and had vibration problems with them. Thinking of going with StopTech BBK. Does anyone have a template or know off hand if StopTech BBK will fit running the EC-7's in this size?


Size Front - 18x9.5" ET22
Size Rear - 18x10.5" ET27

Either the Essex/AP Racing Pro5000R front CP9668 or CP9660 calipers and rear CP9441 caliper OR BW/Alcon front CR6420 caliper and rear CAR4949 caliper should clear without spacers. Essex has wheel templates for the AP Racing calipers and alconusa has wheel templates for the Alcon calipers.

StopTech has had stocking and supply chain issues so I’d personally stay away from StopTech brake kits. FYI, BuyBrakes.com currently shows the standard and Trophy kits are both out of stock. On the f8x, StopTech stopped producing their wide annulus rotors.

OK, thanks for that info. I really like AP racing brakes and that’s probably what I’ll go for.

Both of our front kits (CP9668/372 and CP9660/372) will clear the APEX wheels you mentioned without a spacer, as will our rear kit.

Anything will fit if you fit large enough spacers on it

I have Titan 7 TD6 18" 18 x 10 front and it fits with lots of clearance. I bet EC7s won't have any issue given they are designed to have large barrel clearance.

For experimental purposes - I put my OEM 219m front 18 x 8.5 et 29mm with 15mm spacer. It fits but the barrel barely clears (>2mm per StopTech recommendation) so I probably wouldn't run it.

Stoptech will fit but the new owners STOPPED making BBK and even spare parts like rotors and caliper bolts.
Would be NICE if AP made rotors that fit Stoptech hats/BBK...

I believe GiroDisc and Paragon offer replacement rotor rings for StopTech brake kits. Coleman Racing is another option because they manufacture custom rotor rings at very reasonable prices. Why would AP Racing, or even Alcon or PFC, make rotor rings for StopTech brake kits? I bet they’d make them for you if you are willing to buy the minimum number required before a batch is manufactured. I believe it requires a commitment of 12 rotor rings per corner before they’ll manufacture rotor rings.

What about the CP9561 kit? Would 18x9.5 ET22 Apex SM-10's fit this kit?
And is the CP9561 kit a good choice for a car that sees 5-6 track days a year?

The wheel list you included above is for the Pro5000R Competition Radi-cal front CP9668 & CP9660 calipers and rear CP9449/CP9451 calipers.

You’ll need to print out the brake template and verify yourself whether the Apex SM10 18x9.5et22 clears the front CP9561 caliper and rotor. The front CP9561 and rear CP9541 are part of the World Radi-CAL II Road calipers which may fit inside some 18” wheels but it may also require the use of 19” wheels to fit inside the wheels with different barrel and spoke/face geometry.

I’ve used GiroDisc rotors on an AP Racing brake kit and I have friends that have ordered custom StopTech rotor rings (not sure of rotor OD and ID) from Coleman (I’ve also come across some track junkies at the track that have/are used/using Coleman). Coleman will provide you pretty quick with a quote once you provide rotor OD & ID, thickness, vane count, number of mounting holes and floating hardware geometry for the hats. GiroDisc and Paragon both have a good selection of StopTech rotor rings in stock. AP and Alcon are too busy making rotors for various pro & pro-am race series and track brake kits. PFC stopped stocking rotors when there was a change in ownership so it’s virtually impossible to get rotor rings from them except if you’re a Porsche owner!

Yes, understood. I just thought that Essex (or someone who has the CP9561 kit) might already have the list of wheel fitments since the kit has been around a bit now. Will measure when I get a chance.

Essex’s website doesn’t show any wheels that clear the Road brake kit.

Right, hence the ask. They did actually reply to me on another thread that there are almost no 18" wheels that fit under the Road kit due to the 380mm rotors (as you mentioned above), so it looks like the racing kit is the better option for 18" wheels. So now have some decisions to make for next season...

Yeah, I’m not surprised. Essex within the past year or so took over the AP Racing World Road brake kits from Stillen, IIRC. I remember seeing a note about the use of 19” wheels being required but I couldn’t find it on Essex’s Road e9x M3 webpage. The AP Racing Pro5000R Competition CP9668 and CP9660 calipers fit inside 18” wheels with 380 mm OD and 378 mm OD rotors due to the use of pads with a 52 mm PRD; i.e, the Pro5000R front calipers are have a compact overall height. 18” diameter wheels are a better track option but 19” diameter wheels work fine on track. I personally use 18” and 19” track wheel setups depending on whether I want to run square or staggered tires.

I do believe the EC7's were listed as one of the kits that fits the Brembo 6 piston, 380x34mm setups.
