Getting my rod bearing done and the shop forward me a picture of what looks like a part of a bolt or spring in the oil pickup tube. See picture. Can you guys let me know what this is and how could this find it way into the engine. Any further investigations suggestions.

Thanks

Yeah looks like a spring. I've seen YT videos with all sort of crazy stuff in the oil sump. What ever accidentally dropped from the oil fill best case finds its way down to the sump. No clue to where that part of the engine that spring would come from, my guess is shit happened when pouring oil. Is is something else there as well, piece of wire...?

The shop had no idea either?

I am waiting for the shop to get back in touch..I am interested in what they think it is..hopefully like you pointed out maybe it was contaminated when doing an oil change and the pickup tube did its job and kept it where it belonged..not in the engine.

Should not the pick up tube to the job, the oil filter definitely will. Fully understand the concern mate but doesn't have to be an issue. Again, what ever gets into the engine via the sump will be picked up by the filter.
