Vanos Caps, Evolve or Mporium?

Really would like to install the Mporium units because it is 100% a fix but I don't feel comfortable doing the job myself. Has anyone in Ontario, Canada done this? If so do you have a shop recommendation?

If I cannot find a shop I trust, does anyone have any opinions on the evolve ones? Clips coming off, caps loosening over time? Would be cheaper for me to go the evolve way since I would be doing it myself.

Or the other thing I was thinking was just to leave it and hope the stock plastic one doesn't come off. The engine does have 250k km (150k miles) on it so my other worry is if the main bearings are worn and I rather just let it blow up and get a used engine and bulletproof that. Or is that a stupid idea?

letting the engine blow up is dumb, at that point sell the car and get it low mile one to bullet proof. I think there's a lot more cars that dont blow main bearings and nobody cares to write a happy story on here. there's a car in this forum with 357k miles and I think it on the original engine.

id go m podium. I only plan to do it once and I dont want to worry about the stupid vanos caps falling off after its been done.

Evolve and Slon are the only two clip ons that have not reported any failures. If you're looking for a reputable shop in the GTA, RMP does magic for E9X's. There's also a few fb groups and whatsapp groups that have mechanics we all trust that do it out of their garage.

NRW team are about to release their bolted version. Design shows it will be the lightest ones milled from 4130. Personally waiting for those and will place an order once available.

I'd highly recommend getting the mporium or carbahn covers and solve the problem permanently vs rolling the dice with a clip on solution.

when i looked up carbahn vanos covers the first thread that came up on this site was you selling a set. any reason why go with the more expensive m pourium set? did the carbahn come with bolts?
carbhan vanos covers are only $100 so the price is much more appealing

I sold a carbahn set a while ago because I was unable to find anybody locally that could do a bolt on cover installation. I subsequently went slon after that, something I regret.

I was able to find someone that could do a bolt on installation later on, but they were a few hundred miles away. That time I decided to go mporium, as I liked the design better.

The mporium caps werent yet available when I bought the carbahn caps otherwise I would have bought them then too.

Our Mporium cups are a one-and-done solution. We have hundreds of these sets running in engines worldwide. They're also used in engine builds by some well known shops. Here is our thread on the mod:

If you're sold on the benefit of this captured design, support our original cup product and not a copy. A few holes to save a few grams make no practical difference to function or performance within camshaft assemblies that weigh almost 9 pounds each. We support this forum financially as a vendor and purchases from us directly feed our contributions to this resource for everyone.

Indeed, installation of a captured design takes some extra effort, but I'll say that the S65 is one of the easiest BMW engines to set timing on. No shop that says they work on BMW should shy away from the job, it's not bad at all!

This, I'm in Dallas TX and took my car to MPorium to have these done. Was it cheap? No. But I have peice of mind. Yall treated my car amazingly and had the job done in just a couple days. Also, I just wouldn't be able to comfortably drive the car the way I do if I were to have gone with clip on style covers.

I can vouch for the Mporium bolt on style covers as I installed them a few months ago myself and have had many happy miles since.

However, timing an S65 is no small feat. The timing tools you can buy are excellent but not cheap and you MUST follow the TIS/ISTA instructions forensically. Torquing to angle a reverse thread several times is...interesting. But thankfully timing the S65 isnt "finicky" like the S54 or S62. You either get it perfect or its completely wrong.

Regarding timing the S65 after installing our Mporium Vanos Cups, we have found that the cheap eBay $125 timing tools do just as good a job as the $400 sets.
