Making another update to this thread since it's been a while *queue Staind song*. Since last entry when moving from RI to VA, the car has sat outside all winter, being used of course but definitely in freezing temperatures. Zero issues with the car.
It was time to do brakes come this February; however, I would've been denied inspection in VA for little brake pad life left when going to register the car here. See new license plate below in photos. Naturally, ended up doing some research on brake kits for a daily driver that gets some spirited use here and there; ended up going with Zimmerman rotors, Hawk HPS 5.0 pads, Textar brake pad grease, new Genuine BMW brake rotor screws, & previously had some StopTech stainless brake lines installed by a shop. Had a surprisingly warm 45-degree day in February that allowed me to get the brakes replaced. I was freezing by 8pm & had an aching back from doing it on jack stands, but got it done in a day.
The brake upgrade was definitely needed as the previous set was degraded & not up to the task anymore. The break in was a little long with this kit from FCP, given I really am only going by brake feel & the difference from previous BMW rotors/Textar pads. The feeling now is much better, did not get rid of the slight dead pedal at the top; but once you're into it, it grabs well and is very linear when trying to modulate brake force deeper into the pedal. Overall good kit, but kind of expensive - what should I expect though with M tax...
Will be moving into a townhouse with a 2 car garage come this June which will be interesting. Not exactly sure how I want to setup the garage, but now the car will have a stable to be in all the time. A shop down here is also doing a ceramic coating rejuvenation since it's been a year since it was applied. Car has been great but just slightly dirty from how long its been outside and used.
Honestly enjoying the car a lot more now driving it as a daily. Using it more often almost makes it more special since you realize what it is more often. Planning out some future mods & maintenance maybe late this fall/coming winter including suspension overhaul for the rear, center driveshaft bearing, maybe some test pipes to pair with the M Performance Exhaust... not entirely sure yet.
