We were very lucky to have the chance to drive an S85 swapped E92 M3, this one having 570HP and an 8700RPM rev limit! We’re huge S65/DCT fans but this did make us start to reconsider…

This engine + a manual transmission swapped into any M car is an absolute win every single time!
I'm just out here wondering how much a swap like this actually ends up costing.
Great to hear such a pure sound compared with all the turbo engines we’re used to these days. Awesome conversion. 👏
Wow 🤩, just wow. I wish I could get something like this done. I miss my e90.
ILikeBimmers wroteLove to know myself. I plan on driving my e92 until the motor falls out. This or RB26 swap would be sweet.I'm just out here wondering how much a swap like this actually ends up costing.
Bmwdeven wroteI myself have been trying to figure out the logistics of swapping one into a e82 chassis (135i, etc) with a 1M body kit. I've seen people saying it could be done from anywhere from 3k to 50k.Love to know myself. I plan on driving my e92 until the motor falls out. This or RB26 swap would be sweet.
How freaking cool. Wish I had the money or guts to do this. An E9x is already such a special car. But my god this would be so much more fun to drive than a lot of other v10’s that come to mind (huracan, r8, e63 m6…)
Now that’s a project to admire. Love the outcome!
Why is Captain Gasrank so secretive? Lol
6speed_M2 wroteExcept the weight balance, which in the above case could be a nightmare as well. Remember the Z3 prototype from BMW with a v12, having 72% if its weight on the front axle. This engine + a manual transmission swapped into any M car is an absolute win every single time!
One day, I must do this.
b.oom wroteThey spoke about that during the drive. The engine adds about 40kg over the V8. The driver mentioned it was noticeable in the low speed corners but not as noticeable in the high speed corners.Except the weight balance, which in the above case could be a nightmare as well. I’d personally do the V10 if it were for the enjoyment of it over track use. Then again, I would’ve done it in a E90 or E93 instead.
The top down with this soundtrack and power would be quite the experience
ILikeBimmers wroteSame here. I would lean toward the S65 for the 1 Series since the engine doesn’t weigh much more than the N54. How about a 4.6-liter with 530 hp built by Steve Dinan?! https://carbahn.com/product/sd765-000-s65-4-6l-stroked-and-bored-engine-w-cams/. If you have an extra 30k laying around of course 😁I myself have been trying to figure out the logistics of swapping one into a e82 chassis (135i, etc) with a 1M body kit. Everyone: S85 in M5 E60/1 - STAY AWAY WORST REGRET EVER, RIP WALLET etc.
Also everyone: But S85 swapped into (insert anything) is amazing.

If you can get the engine low and back via a transaxle solution plus drysump, it would a sweet race build. But at that price point you’re probably in for a Judd V8 which would be 1 million times sweeter.
Now you have to worry about 10 rod bearings instead of 8!
I kid I kid...

NickmanBMW wroteYeah the whole reason for swapping a S85 for me is purely to build a sort of Frankenstein e63 m6 cosplaying as an e82 1m 🤣. I feel if I really wanted an S65 I could just try and get a used e92 m3 which is one of my all time modern-classic favorites along with the 1m looks wise.Same here. Nice info on that dinan motor tho!
ILikeBimmers wroteAround $50k from a reputable shop. $10-12k to build the headers alone.I'm just out here wondering how much a swap like this actually ends up costing.
money can make anything happen in the car world should be motivation to get more 🍞
NickmanBMW wroteI have an S65 1er. Amazing car, mine is a track build. An E9x V10 would be an awesome street toy to have alongside it.Same here.
