If comparing piston areas of stock sliding to aftermarket 6 piston, it’s going to be 2 sides of 1 piston compared to 2 sides of 3 pistons for the areas. Just like Captain Caveman has in his calculations quoted above.
Thanks mate, yep that's right. When you're dealing with floating calipers like the ones on our cars, you do the calculation based on the diameter of the single piston, and then multiply the result by two for each caliper.

I would imagine you're in danger of the piston popping out when the pad/rotor wears thin or reaching its max travel.
You will shred your pads and rotors to zero thickness before it will pop out.
Challenge accepted!! Lol. I changed pads on a Ford recently with the dam rewindable pistons and cursed them the whole time. They were dangerously close to the edge when the pads were to the back plates of the pistons popping out.

I'm sure the calipers for the thicker rotor application are fine to use for the thinner rotors, sounds like you've done the research snd judging by your response I'm guessing that is what you are using. As long as the pistons are not binding when they're extending that extra 3mm per side and causing the remaining pad to drag the only other issues I can think of would be wheel clearance and reservoir overflow when you're doing a pad change and pushing them back. Not sure if the caliper manufacturer's have a minimum spec on how much piston needs to remain in the caliper body to retract properly and not bind but I guess time would tell.

I understand what you guys are doing, trying to get a cost friendly option for a Brembo kit and if you care about the brand the Savings are substantial. To me id still rather have a proper kit and be able to get the support for said kit and not have to scramble for parts for other applications.
If you can find an off the shelf hat, off the shelf rotor and off the shelf caliper, the only custom part will be the adapters.

I went/designed my retrofit set up to give me freedom of choice what pads and rotors im going to use. And best bung for the buck! If you buy branded BBK, yes they are GOOD and you have tons of support from them, but not only its expensive, you have no choice but to buy thier expensive pads and rotors/rings for life..

Also, i run 18 Forged wheels for track and they're only a few full BBK that supports my wheels..

But, by the end of the day, its still personal preference..
I have everything now Freakyparts front bracket/shims and lines ready for Alfa 6 pot Brembos. Also have complete M4 setup for the rear.

Best pad option for M4 discs? Ideally want to avoid rust ring on inner annulus
The pad shape you want is pad ID D1666 or D1365 (55mm radial pad depth). The pad is shared with the 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT500, 2008-2013 Lexus IS-F, Merc CLK55 AMG 2005-06, Merc CLK63 AMG 2007-08 and SLK55 AMG 2005-10, 07-08 2008 FERRARI 599 GTB, 2008 FERRARI F430 Scuderia and Maserati 2015 MASERATI GHIBLI.

Hey Captain, what is the timeline until your brake kit becomes available for purchase?

Thanks. I assume I need this version https://www.zeckhausen.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=7426_7431_8025&products_id=26979 not heard much about this brand of pad unless anyone has any knowledge to share?

Then there is the EBC Yellows, D1666 https://www.ebcbrakeshop.co.uk/ebc-yellowstuff-brake-pads-dp43013r_p31328612.htm

Shelby GT500 has 380mm discs by the looks of things with the same design calipers, concerned about the annular being the correct curvature.

I can make a template up by dry assembling the disc, bracket and caliper to see if that works

It would be cool to have a compiled list of all calipers that fit, along with which rotors and other parts are required to fit them.
They will all require custom brackets, and thus a lot of permutations across calipers, and rotor combinations. If you're going to track your car, just buy a used proper BBK. If it's for aesthetics reach out to Freaky Parts or Slonik for calipers retrofits using the OEM rotor.

Can't comment on the piston sizes on the Levante, may or may not share the same caliper as the other Maseratis, which are the same as the Alfa Quadrifoglio. Worth sticking with the Maserati Granturismo, Ghibli or Quattroporte caliper.
So it looks like no one makes a Frankenstein rear kit these days?

AK Motorsport no longer makes one
Slonik is MIA from the community after his poor customer service
FreakyParts doesn't have a rear kit but has the Alfa Romeo kit in work... maybe

Anyone?

Why do you think I have been busting my ass trying to research a PROPERLY matched F&R kit for our cars!? :happyanim:

Much appreciated man! I'm leaning toward an alfa rear too since it will match my alfa fronts. FreakyParts doesn't make a bracket for it yet tho.:sigh:

Perfect choice, it has the exact piston size you need and is within tolerance of the stock M3 or M4 disc thickness too.
Hi guys
So I was offered a F10 M5 brake kit to put on my E92.

Includes oem rotors (fronts are 400mm, rears I don't know)
Oem calipers
Oem brake pads

My wheels are 220m style.

Will I be able to put them in front and rear?

I've known about front conversion, needing a special bracket, but nothing about rear conversion.

I'm only asking, because my rotors are shot and a new zimermann 4 rotors kit are like 2000 dollars in Brazil, and the F10 kit was offered for 1450 dollars.

What about this kit? Comes with calipers front and back, front rotors, hardware, pads, dust shields, etc. for $2,100. All you would need is the front spindles if I'm not mistaken?

I think for front calipers the options discussed here (Alfa calipers and other AMG caliper options) are better than F8x 4 pot, and front spindles aren't exactly cheap either.

For $2100 I would rather go with StopTech ST40 front only instead of the BMW Performance kit

Hey Capt!

We can't send you PMs :(
i saw a sneak peak at the alfa rear caliper bbk. can't say i'm pleased with the pad sweep. based on the pics i saw, there's a good 12mm of unswept rotor
