Secondary Air Pump Relay and Fuse Location? Fault Code P1411 After Pump Replaced.

I'm hoping someone can tell me where the secondary air pump relay and fuse is located.

I took my E90 M3 in to a local dealership service center for a recall item and had them check the SES codes at the same time. They said the secondary air pump (SAP) needed to be replaced based so I went ahead and did that myself.

After replacing the pump I'm now getting the P1411 code which recommends testing the pump by connecting two terminals on the SAP relay socket. Unfortunately, I've been searching online for quite a while now and I haven't been able to find where this relay is located. I'd like to be able to check this before pulling the plenum back off and rechecking my connections.

Anyone else run into this? Any help would be appreciated.

I figured I'd follow up on this in case anyone else came looking for the relay. It's located in the electrical box in the engine bay under the right side air filter. You have to take off the entire shroud to get to it. It's the pink relay in the picture.

I tried testing the pump per the P1411 instructions but it didn't turn on. I ended up pulling out the pump and bench testing it and it turns on so the pump seems to be good. Next I checked the voltage in the relay terminal with the ignition on and I don't seem to be getting any voltage in the 30 or 87 terminal which would explain why the pump didn't turn on during the test. I did get 4.38v in the 85 terminal and 12v in the 86 terminal.

Now I'm trying to find a fuse for the SAP. Anyone out there know where that is or have some other input on what could be going on?

Ok, back again to post an answer to my own question. Someone on Reddit told me about www.newtis.info and pointed out the #89 fuse which was in fact blown.

(FYI it could be #70 fuse for E90 models before late 07)

Hopefully, someone finds this info useful at some point in the future.

It probably goes without saying but check the fuse first since it's easiest. If I had known where it was it would have saved me a lot of work. Good luck.

Where is the fuse location ? by the globe box compartment ?

It's been a while since I did this and I no longer have the car but this page shows the fuse box location behind the glove box plus other locations.

Back answering questions even after car is sold, whay to go man!

I’m resurrecting this just a report that I also replaced my SAP and continued to get a code. Then I found this thread and found a blown fuse #80.

Need some help.

Tested resistance on the relay and seems within range. Jumped the relay contact and the brand new SAP runs. Checked the 40A fuse and it is good (I just replaced it).

SAP still not running on cold start and I’m getting a code and not getting emissions readiness.

Any other ideas?
